Ken Block Trying for World Rallycross Championship with Ford

Ken Block Ford

There are few people out there who can drive like Ken Block. The man makes the impossible look easy. Watch one of his Gymkhana videos and you’ll suddenly realize you have the driving skills of a rank amateur. Block announced that he is extending his partnership with Ford Performance and aiming for the FIA World Rallycross title this coming year.

Block has previously kept a diverse race calendar, but this year he’s focusing on only one championship with the hope that this will help him take the win. He is already one of the top drivers in rallycross and the winningest driver in Global Rallycross.

He missed the GRC championship by 5 points in 2014 and had three event wins in 2015. The World Rallycross round in Norway back in 2014 was his first crack at that race and he took a third place finish. He followed that with fourth in the 2014 French round and posted the fastest lap of the event. It’s safe to say the man stands an okay chance of catching the WRC championship this year.

Block’s partnership with Ford Performance isn’t new, but an extension of a relationship that has already served both quite well. Block won several events in the US-based Global World Rallycross behind the wheel of a Ford Fiesta ST.

The Fiesta ST has scored a total of 29 wins and 5 manufacturers’ championships in the Global Rallycross Championship over the last five years. Attempting the FIA World Rallycross Championship with Block is a logical next step in the already successful partnership between the two.

The whole thing kicks off on the weekend of April 16 in Portugal before making numerous stops that will be keeping Block busy. There are rounds in Germany, Belgium, Great Britain, Norway, Sweden, Canada, France, Spain, and Latvia. It all wraps up in Argentina on November 27 after 7 months of grueling racing across the globe.

Unfortunately, if you want to see Block in action and you’re in the US, there are limited opportunites. You can go north to Trois-Rivieres, Canada or south to Rosario, Argentina and catch the big finish. Even if you can’t attend, Ford and Block are sure to release plenty of news along the way and, if we’re really lucky, some clips of him taking things sideways in a cloud of dirt and rocks.
