Hummer, a brand once know for massive SUVs that guzzled gas at an alarming rate, is coming back as something entirely new. GMC has announced the return of Hummer as an electric pickup truck.
The news of Hummer’s return broke earlier in January, but details were scarce. All that was known at the time was that it was coming back as a model in the GMC lineup rather than as a standalone brand and that it would be an electric truck.
Now GMC is giving out details and they’re downright impressive. GMC’s first all-electric truck will have 1,000 horsepower, 11,500 lb-ft of torque, and do 0-60 mph in three seconds.
What exactly will this new GMC Hummer look like when it finally arrives? That’s something they’ve decided to keep under wraps for a little bit longer. They did release one teaser image of the grille.
It is reminiscent of the original Hummer grille, but with a modern update that includes plenty of lights because, you know, it’s electric. There are also a series of short videos to promote the GMC Hummer EV, but they show nothing of the actual truck.
Instead, the ads focus on the truck as an electric and that electric means quiet. Even with loads of horsepower and torque, there’s no engine to make all those nasty engine noises.
Look for a 30-second TV spot to air during the second quarter of this year’s Super Bowl. The official vehicle reveal is set for May 20 so you’ll have to wait a bit to see the new Hummer.
If you’re just dying to get all the latest Hummer news as soon as possible, GMC has a website where you can register for email updates as they’re made available.
