The slow drip of teasers continues for the 2016 Kia Sorento. This time around, we get pics and sense of its size, and yep, it’s bigger.
The pics below show the new Sorento to be an evolutionary step from the current model, with a nod to the Cross GT, Kia’s concept car that hit the stage at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show. Particularly in front.
However, the new Sorento does not follow the Cross GT’s kick-up in its rear window. The pics show that it sticks with the more settled lines of the current car.
Wheelbase is up three inches, and overall length is up about four. Every inch counts when there are three rows of seats, and here’s hoping the tight third row gets the lion’s share of the expansion. Kia says it’s a bit wider too.
The side scoop is neat.
Kia calls this a “tiger-nose” grille.
With the familiar roof treatment, the rear 3/4 view is much like the current Sorento.
The tail lights bring to mind the heady-lidded scowl of a drowsy cat.
Red reflectors take over the stylistic flourish of dual exhausts.
The interior continues the grille’s theme of a shiny center grouping.
We’ll see it all when the 2016 Sorento debuts at the Paris Auto Show on October 2. In the meantime, we’re noticing how cleanly Kia has filled the slot that Pontiac left after its death. Those wheels especially – strong, bold, vaguely honeycomb in pattern – have Pontiac written all over them.
Looking forward to seeing more of this evolutionary and expressive design. Tell us in the comments – what do you think of the Sorento’s styling?
