Chrysler chose the New England International Auto Show in Boston to reveal its premium 2016 Jeep Cherokee Overland.
The new 2016 Cherokee Overland model trim is yet another step up the luxury ladder for a crossover already endowed with plush appointments. Boston is one of Chrysler’s strongest Cherokee markets according to Chrysler Brand Specialist Jim Morrison.
Last year, the Cherokee Latitude True North Edition arrived in this writer’s driveway during a week in which four feet of snow fell. It was amazing in the snow, better on its Firestone Destination all-season tires than a Toyota Highlander on Blizzak winter rubber we had for comparison. That earned it a vote for Best Winter Vehicle.
The 2016 Jeep Cherokee Overland trim adds to the vehicle’s long list of strong points:
– Leather wrapped instrument panel
– Unique 18-inch polished aluminum alloy wheels
– Zebrano high-gloss wood trim
– Heated and ventilated Nappa leather seats with 4-way power lumbar control
-Alpine premium audio
-Uconnect 8.4AN AM/FM radio with 8.4-in. touchscreen display
-Unique color-matched fascia and a bright front grill with chin extension
-Optional advanced driver assist features
The Overland should not be confused with other brands’ poser crossovers. Jeep says of its all-terrain chops:
“Living up to the “Overland” name, each Jeep Cherokee Overland 4×4 model comes equipped with the Jeep Active Drive II 4×4 system, which includes a two-speed power transfer unit, low range and an industry-first disconnecting rear axle for improved fuel efficiency when 4×4 capability isn’t needed. In addition, the Jeep Active Drive II system features the Jeep brand’s Selec-Terrain traction control system. Selec-Terrain allows the driver, with a push of a button on the Selec-Terrain dial, to choose the on- and off-road setting for optimum performance. Four customized settings are offered on the new Cherokee Overland model: Auto, Snow, Sport and Sand/Mud.”
The 2016 Jeep Cherokee Overland will start at an MSRP $36,695 when it arrives in dealerships this spring. See the new Cherokee Overland this week at the Boston Show. Show times and directions here.
