The 2018 Infiniti Q60 is a carryover from last year when the model was all-new. There aren’t any major changes, which is just fine, as this luxury coupe is already a beautiful car with solid performance.
There are three turbocharged engines starting with a base 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 208 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Next up is a 3.0-liter V6 with 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Sitting at the top is the Q60 Red Sport 400 with a more powerful version of the 3.0-liter V6 that boasts 400 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. There’s a 7-speed automatic transmission and a choice of either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive across the lineup.
Our test car was the top of the line Red Sport 400 with all-wheel drive and lots of luxury options. The Carbon Fiber Package ($2,250), Sensory Package ($2,250) and Proactive Package ($2,850) helped take it from the base price of $54,000 up to $65,705. It’s not an inexpensive car at either price, but it’s worth the money once you spend some time at the wheel.
The Infiniti Q60 makes a heck of a first impression. It’s a beautiful car with a wide stance and swooping curves. It attracts plenty of attention with its sporty good looks and will have people asking you about what you’re driving. Its low roofline looks fantastic, although taller passengers need to exercise care so they don’t bonk their heads when taking a seat.
This is a coupe with room for four people, but as with most coupes, the backseat is not where you want to sit. The Q60 is strictly for two except on the shortest of rides. It’s not a matter of comfort, but of space. The low roofline brushes the head of even shorter rear passengers and legroom is at a premium. It does have surprisingly good trunk space, however, with 8.7 cubic feet that easily holds your groceries or a couple of suitcases.
The interior features soft, supple leathers and high quality trims throughout. It looks and feels like its $65,705 price tag if not more, achieving its mission of being a luxury cruiser. It’s clean and uncluttered with dual touchscreens on the dash that look good, save the fact that the lower screen is a magnet for smudges. No matter how clean your fingers, this screen looks like it was manhandled by a toddler after eating the world’s greasiest slice of pizza. There is, however, a handy dandy cleaning cloth that comes with your Q60 so keep that thing handy.
Hit the gas and the Q60 is responsive with a nice growl to the exhaust as the car zips out into traffic. The Q60 is fast and makes easy work of highway merges without sounding or feeling strained. It’s an effortless drive that presses you back into the heavily bolstered seats and reminds you that this is a luxury coupe with performance chops.
There’s also the Drive Mode Selector which lets you toggle through snow, eco, standard, sport, sport+, and personal drive modes. If you’re looking to get a true performance feel out of your Q60 it’s easily achieved in sport mode.
Many a sporty coupe is fun to drive, but miserable over long distances due to a harsh ride quality. The Q60 doesn’t forget its luxury roots. It offers a smooth, quiet ride with little road and wind noise. The suspension gets top marks for smoothing out uneven roads, including the mess of snow and ice currently stuck to the road throughout a large chunk of the country.
The 2018 Infiniti Q60 upholds the brand’s reputation for building beautiful luxury cars and throws in a dose of performance to create a true luxury sports coupe.
