REVIEW: Dodge Durango Citadel Demands Your Attention

Posted by

Dodge has a reputation for building powerful cars like the Charger and Challenger, but they also build the Dodge Durango SUV. It might not seem like an SUV fits with those beefy muscle cars, but the Durango keeps up with its muscle car brethren, just with room for seven and all their cargo.

The Durango is a full-size SUV with the bold styling of the Dodge brand. This is not a subtle, elegant vehicle. It’s a bold and aggressive SUV, especially in the Citadel trim with the optional Anodized Platinum Appearance Package.

Standard on the Citadel are a unique grille, chrome power-folding mirrors, bright roof rails, and 20-inch polished aluminum wheels. It’s an attention-getter, but add on the Anodized Platinum Aluminum Appearance Package, which is exclusive to the Citadel, and it demands your attention.

There are no performance enhancements here. It comes standard with a 3.6-liter V6 engine with 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Optional is the 5.7-liter V8 with 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque that’s standard on the R/T trim. If it’s style, however, then the Citadel with the Anodized Platinum Appearance Package is where you need to look.

Inside, there are second-row fold-and-tumble captain’s chairs, leather-trimmed seats, platinum interior accents and steering wheel bezels. This adds to standard interior features on the Citadel like 8-way power front seats with four-way lumbar, heating, and ventilation. There’s also a heated second row and a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel. This package includes interior color choices of either Black or Black/Sepia.

Outside, the changes are more dramatic. There are black roof rails with Platinum accents everywhere. This includes the door handles, mirror caps, fog lamp bezels, rear lower fascia, front fascia, door sills, and grille surround. There are also 20-inch Satin Carbon wheels to finish off the look.

The overall impression is part SUV, part muscle car, which makes perfect sense for the Dodge brand. While other SUVs are aiming for subdued luxury, the Durango is anything but subtle. This is an attention-getter with styling that makes it stand out from the legions of SUVs on the road today. A choice of powerful engines adds substance to match the bold style of the Dodge Durango Citadel Anodized Platinum.

Base price on the Durango Citadel is $43,995 with the Anodized Platinum Appearance Package adding $3,695.
