The 2020 Ram 1500 comes in a wide range of configurations with two-wheel or four-wheel drive, short or long beds, crew or quad cabs, and powerful engine options. The Ram 1500 Rebel is the more off-road focused trim of the lot and for the first time is available with a diesel engine.
The 3.0-liter V6 EcoDiesel engine in the Ram 1500 Rebel offers 260 horsepower with 480 lb-ft of torque and is paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. That’s 8 percent more torque and 14 percent more horsepower than the previous generation of the EcoDiesel.
All that torque makes it ideal for towing with a maximum tow rating of 12,560 pounds. It’s also a bonus when you take the Rebel off-road. Rather than needing a heavy foot on the accelerator to overcome obstacles, a light touch delivers plenty of low-end torque for climbing over uneven terrain.
Diesel engines have a reputation for being loud. While there is no mistaking this as anything but a diesel, the sound is never intrusive or annoying. It’s more of a background noise than something that becomes grating after a few hours behind the wheel. Ram worked to keep the cabin quiet and free of vibration and its efforts paid off.
One bonus to a diesel engine is its fuel economy. Four-wheel drive models achieve an EPA-estimated 21 mpg in the city, 29 mpg on the highway, and 24 mpg combined. Equipped with two-wheel drive, the numbers increase to 22 mpg in the city, 32 mpg on the highway, and 26 mpg combined. Choose the available 33-gallon fuel tank and driving range tops 1,000 miles.
The Rebel is unique in the Ram 1500 lineup for its focus on off-roading. The standard coil suspension on the Rebel gives it one extra inch of ground clearance while the available air suspension adds two inches of clearance and provides a smoother ride.
The 4×4 Off-road Group available as an option on other trims is standard on every Rebel. This adds tow hooks, multiple skid plates, rear electronic locking axle, off-road shocks, hill descent control, and all-terrain tires.
In addition to the features that make the Rebel unique, there are all the available features that make the Ram 1500 lineup such a strong offering in today’s competitive truck market. These include a 12-inch infotainment touchscreen with 19-speaker audio system, leather seating surfaces, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross path and trailer detection, front and rear park assist with automatic reverse stop, lane departure warning, and forward collision mitigation.
The 2020 Ram 1500 Rebel has a compelling combination of features. It offers advanced safety, a fully-featured infotainment system, off-road capability, and now the option of a powerful diesel engine. It also puts a priority on passenger comfort and boasts impressive capability. The 2020 Ram 1500 Rebel EcoDiesel is available in dealerships now with a starting price of $49,485.
