2019 GMC Acadia: Three-Row Versatility with Upscale Appeal

Posted by

The 2019 GMC Acadia is a bold three-row SUV with room for up to seven passengers. It’s geared toward a more affluent buyer with a range of four well-equipped trims. These include the Denali, which is a badge reserved for the most exclusive vehicles in the GMC lineup.

The Acadia SL starts at $30,195 while the top Denali comes in at $48,695. The base trim has front-wheel drive only, but the rest of the range offers all-wheel drive. The standard engine is a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder with 193 horsepower and 188 lb-ft of torque, but there is a better option.

Our test Acadia featured the optional 3.6-liter V6 with 310 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque. This isn’t a small vehicle, so we’d be hard pressed to recommend the smaller engine. The V6, however, does an admirable job of getting the Acadia up to speed, even fully loaded with people and cargo.

The interior has room for up to seven – six if you go for the second row captain’s chairs. The front seats are spacious and comfortable even on longer trips and the second-row captain’s chairs are equally accommodating. The third row, well, that’s a bit more challenging. It has room for two, but it’s a tight squeeze best reserved for the kids or adults only for short trips.

If it’s cargo you’re looking to carry, then the Acadia has you covered. There’s 12.8 cubic feet behind the third row, 41.70 cubic feet behind the second row, and 79.00 cubic feet behind the first row. It can also tow up to 4,000 pounds so it can handle a variety of passenger and cargo configurations.

The Acadia is a big SUV with plenty of room for people and cargo, but it’s surprisingly light on its feet. It never feels heavy when you’re behind the wheel with responsive steering that lets you relax rather than fighting to keep the Acadia on course.

There’s minimal body roll, even in the corners, and the ride is impressively smooth over rough pavement and dirt roads. Adding to the ride quality is a quiet interior. Road and wind noise are minimal so it’s easy to carry on conversations with all three rows without having to raise your voice.

The 2019 GMC Acadia is a compelling option for those who are in the market for a three-row SUV. It has a comfortable, quiet interior with a smooth ride and plenty of room for cargo. A choice of well-equipped trims, including the exclusive Denali, make the Acadia standout for combining the versatility of an SUV with the style and features of a luxury vehicle.
