Tired of being just another “also ran” in the mid-sized class of sedans, this Italian owned and Detroit based automaker is redesigning and redefining what it takes to run in front of the pack. A complete exterior makeover, class-leading safety features, increased engine performance, a cutting-edge transmission, and more stylistic interior space all play significant roles in making the 2015 Chrysler 200 the mid-sized sedan that all of the others will be measured against.
The all-new Chrysler 200 sedan offers two distinctively different engine choices. The first is a 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir II four-cylinder that produces 184-hp and 173 lb.-ft. of torque. The MultiAir design enhances low-end torque and promotes increased fuel efficiency. It has an EPA fuel efficiency rating of 31 mpg city/35 mpg highway. The second engine choice is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 which produces a class leading 295-hp and 262 lb.-ft. of torque. Both engines are mated with an innovative nine-speed automatic transmission featuring a rotary e-shift and the most advanced “Sport” mode in its class.
Activating sport mode implements changes in transmission shifting points, electronic stability and traction control, adaptive cruise control, electronic variably assisted power steering, throttle position, and optional all-wheel drivetrain.
The ultra-advanced all-wheel drivetrain is controlled by a fully preemptive anticipatory system with absolutely no driver input required. The 200’s all-wheel-drive system features an automatic rear-axle-disconnect and torque vectoring capabilities that have, until now, remained unheard of in the mid-sized sedan segment.
The 2015 Chrysler 200 will also offer two grille options; both designed to make a fantastic first impression. The radiator grilles are slim and function fitted to blend with the headlights with large lower air-dam grilles providing cooling for the engine and enhancing aerodynamic characteristics. The 200LX, Limited, S, and C models are fitted with a lower grille that contains horizontal blades in your choice of chrome, gloss black, or satin silver. The remaining models utilize a ribbon mesh on the lower grille, available in the same finish choices. All models are equipped with the ribbon mesh in the upper grille with the Chrysler logo placed stylishly in the center.
The 200 is designed with the sporty proportions and stance of a coupe and the refined fit and finish of a luxury sedan. Its deeply etched lines, windswept profile, precisely sculpted curves, and low center of gravity yield a playful yet sophisticated road presence. However it not all just for show, with more than 600-hours of wind-tunnel exposure the new 200 outshines every other mid-sized sedan in its class with unrivalled aerodynamic efficiency.
Ten new paint color options, including the standout Lunar White Tri-Coat Pearl which offers three-dimensional color appearance, are available through World Class Manufacturing.
Seven wheel packages offer consumers the ability to add a custom appearance to their 200, with choices ranging from 17-inch to 19-inch wheels in a diverse assortment of color and finish configurations.
Projector headlamps are offered as standard equipment with various High-Intensity Discharge (HID) and LED packages available, as well. The Premium Light Group package, available on the 200S and 200C models, yields automatic HID headlamps with LED fog lamps, LED running lamps, and LED tail lamps. Models equipped with the V6 engine feature dual-trapezoidal exhaust tips, which are surrounded with mirror polished stainless-steel, protruding perfectly through the rear fascia to finish out the premium sports sedan appearance.
Interior highlights include a redesigned center console with electronic rotary shifter, electronic emergency brake, climate controls, connectivity functions, and some rather uncommon storage and organizational capabilities. A USB hub is smartly located under the cup holder and the pass-through storage area is large enough to carry an e-tablet. Dual-zone climate control buttons are simplified and easy to reach.
The passenger compartment is more spacious than last year with comfortable four-way power lumbar and eight-way power adjustable sport-sculpted front seats that are heated and ventilated, in addition to being repositioned for increased shoulder room. The rear passenger seating is arranged in a 60/40 split-back bench design that allows access to the trunk area. The new steering wheel is loaded with audio and voice command controls, along with paddle shifters.
The standard 5-inch, or optional 8.4-inch, LCD touchscreen with Uconnect system controls audio, BlueTooth connectivity, and navigation duties while the optional 7-inch customizable instrument panel display provides driver assistance imaging and audible messages.
The 2015 Chrysler 200 also offers safety features that are not typically associated with mid-level mid-sized sedans; including a blind spot warning system that warns the driver of vehicles present in the traditional blind spot areas of driver visibility. Once a vehicle is detected a warning image is illuminated on the driver’s side view mirror to make him/her aware of it.
A Lane Departure Warning System with Lane Keep Assist will warn the driver of unintentional lane departures, initially and eventually take steps to correct the condition if warnings go unheralded.
Also available is a class-exclusive Forward Collision Warning System with mitigated braking if the warnings go unheeded.
The Park View Rear Backup Camera shows what is behind you and lays out a system of dynamic gridlines to assist you in parking the vehicle.
The available Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist System will help you to place the 200 in even the most challenging of parking spots by virtually parking itself.
The four-wheel antilock brake system links together with the four-channel electronic stability and traction control system to ensure safe maneuvering in the most adverse driving conditions.
A convenient Keyless Enter and Go system allows the driver to gain entry to the vehicle by simply pulling up on the door handle, whenever the key fob is nearby. The available remote start allows the engine to be started from the comfort of home or the standard push button start will allow the engine to start when the key fob is nearby.
An optional 9-1-1 Call Button allows you to reach local emergency rescue personnel at the touch of a single button; alerting them to your location and circumstances if you become incommunicado.
Time tested and proven MacPherson strut front suspension combined with the rear multi-link suspension should provide years of reliable service coupled with manageable handling.
