This weekend is jam-packed with car goings-on, from the Monterey Peninsula to Woodward Avenue in Detroit. Even if you’re stuck at home, there’s opportunity to catch some action as it happens.
Woodward Dream Cruise
Berkeley, Birmingham, Bloomfield Township, Ferndale, Pontiac, and Royal Oak, Michigan
The Woodward Dream Cruise started in 1995 as a tiny fundraiser for a soccer field in Ferndale, Michigan. Almost 20 years later, it’s the world’s largest one-day automotive event, pulling in 1.5 million spectators and upwards of 40,000 classic cars. It’s also a place to see new prototypes from the manufacturers.
There’s a complete visitor’s guide on the Woodward Dream Cruise website.
Monterey Car Week
We’ve already seen the most expensive car every auctioned go across the block at the Bonhams Auction in Monterey — a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO that sold for $36 million last night — but there’s tons of action left to come, including auctions from Mecum, RM Auctions, Gooding and Co., the amazing Monterey Historics vintage race weekend, Concorso Italiano and the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on Sunday.
Velocity is covering the Mecum Auction live, beginning today at 1:00 pm.
