It happens to everyone. You’re driving along and everything is fine until you hear something. It’s not quite clear what you hear, but something is amiss with your trusty car. The smart thing to do is pull over safely and take a look at things, unless you’re this guy. He continued on down the highway with nothing but a brake rotor where one wheel usually rests.
There are so many questions that come to mind watching this video. Presumably, one would notice the absence of an entire wheel. It’s not a small thing and if it were to fall off mid-drive, we’d imagine it would cause quite a jolt.
Even if somehow you didn’t notice losing this key car feature, wouldn’t you hear it? The scraping of the brake rotor against the pavement is worse than nails on a chalkboard when you listen to the video captured by a passing motorist. Can you imagine what this must sound like to the driver?
Now, there’s also the possibility things started out this way. Maybe there was a problem that necessitated removing the wheel. Perhaps once this task was accomplished there wasn’t a spare at the ready or there simply wasn’t enough time to get the job done.
The average person would look for an alternate means of transport. Calling a taxi or Uber seem to be obvious choices. You could also call a friend or maybe hop on a bus. There are many ways to get around when you suddenly find yourself sans working automobile.
Not on our list of solutions at all would be driving that car anywhere, especially at high speeds on a highway. This guy, however, saw the missing wheel as no obstacle to driving.
This all happened on US59 near downtown Houston. The driver of the car looks completely unfazed. He’s not driving with his hazards on nor is he in the breakdown lane creeping along to get off the highway. He’s just driving.
Whatever became of this driver and his beleaguered car is unknown. We can only hope he came to his senses and pulled over safely before he or anyone else was injured.
It’s a huge inconvenience when you have an issue with your car and it’s not cheap to replace your tires. But it’s a heck of a lot cheaper than the damage this guy did driving on his rotor and the damage he could have caused had it all gone wrong.
