This commercial is part ad for the Škoda Fabia and part game. It’s a lot like those pictures that are in magazines like Highlights that show what appears to be two identical images until you look very closely. Only this time, it’s a commercial for a car and what’s changing is pretty much everything.
You know that something funny is going on because, as the narrator speaks, there’s a visible shift of the image before your eyes. You know it’s changing, but you have to pay close attention if you want to see exactly what is changing.
The idea behind it is that the Škoda Fabia is so attention getting that you will have your eyes fixed on the car and not even notice that the background is changing at all. That’d be because the Fabia is such an amazing, attention stealing car. Hey, that’s not me talking, that’s the ad people who thought up this gimmicky commercial for Škoda.
You know how those goofy Highlights pictures were sort of addictive and you couldn’t put the magazine down until you found all the changes? This commercial will do the same thing. The only problem is that you don’t know exactly how many things change and there is no handy key at the bottom to point out the things that you missed.
A few of the changes are obvious, but others you just won’t see until you’ve watched the commercial through a few times. The narrator also lists a few at the end, but he doesn’t list them all. There’s a monkey that suddenly appears and I didn’t see it until the third time I watched the video.
Will this make people immediately go out and trade in whatever they own for a Škoda Fabia? I’d guess not many will be compelled to buy one based on this ad, but it definitely does bring attention to the brand. It also makes them look light-hearted and fun which isn’t a bad thing. It might not have anyone running out to buy a Skoda today, but it will at least give everyone warm childhood fuzzies.
Warning: Don’t watch this unless you have time to kill because once you start, you’re going to want to watch it again and again until you’re sure you’ve spotted all the changes.
