Who says that all of the incredible supercars need to be made in Europe or Asia? As this video shows, American-made supercars rival anything made anywhere at any price point. The Chevrolet Corvette already owns the “affordable” supercar class and outsells Porsche’s offerings every month. However, there is another level of car above and beyond the Corvette. Call them hypercars, exotic cars, or whatever you like.
The Hennessy Venom GT is the world’s fastest automobile. It is also one of the sexiest, and it is made in Texas a short drive from Houston. If the road was clear you could drive to Houston from Sealy Texas in about 9 minutes. It takes 45 minutes if you abide by the speed limit.
John F. Kennedy, the patron saint of Massachusetts, and our most celebrated modern president, once said “We choose to go to the Moon…and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard.” (Watch the Video). If there is a more succinct statement explaining why America is the greatest nation I can’t think of it. Feel free to place your favorite quote in the comments below if you can top it.
The Venom GT can sprint from 0-60 MPH faster than you can count to “three chimpanzee.” It does the quarter mile in under 10 seconds. Its V8 engine develops 1244 horsepower. 270 MPH is its top speed. And guess what? It is not a hybrid. The Hennessy Venom GT is a car one drives. It has a manual 6-speed transmission. If you miss the upshift from 5th to 6th gear at 233 MPH you will die. The Venom weights roughly the same amount as the Mazda Miata yet has almost eight times the power. Think of it as a Bugatti Veyron that isn’t ugly. Or maybe as a Porsche 918 that can go 60 MPH faster. Of just think of it as a cool example of what “Murica is all about.
