In the wake of the death of popular actor, and star of The Fast and the Furious saga Paul Walker, we at BestRide would like to extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and co-workers in this excruciatingly trying time for them.
Paul Walker was a man who loved cars and it was evident in his work, as well as in his personal life. He will be truly missed, both by moviegoers and automotive aficionados, alike.
In this humble tribute to Paul and his work on the set of the Fast and the Furious, I would like to take a closer look at some of the vehicles, which he helped to make famous.
1999 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning
As Brian O’Connor’s (Paul Walker’s character) daily driver, this red-hot pickup became even hotter after it appeared in 2001’s the Fast and The Furious. The ’99 F-150 SVT Lightning was the reintroduction of Ford’s original performance geared Lightning package, which began production in 1993 and ran through 1995. The ’99 model featured drastic improvements over its predecessor in style, handling, and performance. A 5.4-liter Triton engine, with an Eaton Generation IV roots type, belt driven supercharger and water-to-air intercooler produced 360-horsepower and 440-lb.-ft. of torque.
O’Connor’s racing car in the Fast and the Furious was affectionately known simply as “the green car” by movie buffs, the ’95 Eclipse was a modified version of an already potent Japanese coupe. A 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine, with an aluminum cylinder head, and dual-overhead-cam sixteen valve configuration, produced 210-horsepower and 205 lb.-ft. of torque, from the factory. Additional fuel delivery, air induction, and turbocharger/intercooler upgrades have boosted current ratings to 435-horsepower and 324 lb.-ft. of torque. The original car was borrowed from John Lapid a Los Angeles auto tuner of some note, then repainted and duplicated for movie production. Exterior effects included a RoboCar AeroArmor Eclips body kit, an ARP GT2 wing, and a set of Axis Sport Tuning rims.
The Supra is the model that makes Toyota enthusiasts stand-up and take notice. This ’95 Mk IV car was rented from Craig Lieberman, who was the technical advisor for several movies in this saga. Factory models were equipped with a twin-turbocharged V6 engine, which produced 320-horsepower and 315 lb.-ft. of torque. It could achieve sixty-miles-per-hour, from a standstill, in just 4.6-seconds; with a quarter mile time of 13.1-seconds at a speed of 109 mph. Craig Lieberman’s car, which Paul Walker’s character used to defeat the legendary blown 1970 Dodge Charger of Walker’s rival-racer Dom Toretto (played by Vin Diesel), has undergone some major performance modifications, including an engine swap. A larger 3.1-liter (2JZ) engine with a Turbonetics T-66 ball-bearing turbocharger equipped with a Delta II wastegate and Profec B boost controller, stainless-steel custom RPS exhaust header, AEBS turbo downpipe with GReddy Power Extreme exhaust system, Airinx cold air intake, NOS 100-horsepower nitrous-oxide fogger, Clutchmasters Stage III full-racing clutch, and lightweight billet racing flywheel. It rides on a modified Eibach coilover suspension, nineteen-inch Dazzle Racing rims and sports some stunning custom graphics.
