If you are going to name your sports car after one of the baddest fighting bulls to ever come out of the bullfighting “mecca” of Sarragossa, Spain, then you had better make sure that it is very strong, very fast, and ultra-intimidating. The Aventador 700-4 is all of those things and more.
Beginning with a carbon fiber monocoque shell, this muscular lightweight sports car utilizes the sharp angles of a combat fighter jet to re-direct air around and through the body, using it to provide increased downforce and better driving stability. The aluminum front bonnet, front fenders, and doors, as well as the all-aluminum front and rear frames provided exceptional strength with state-of-the-art weight reduction properties. The carbon fiber engine cover, adjustable spoiler, and side air vents further lighten the gross vehicle weight. Unique “scissor doors” yield ease of access and a space age atmosphere. The rear spoiler is automatically adaptive according to vehicle speed and drive select mode.
Helping the Aventador to straighten the curves is an exclusive front and rear mono-tube damper with push-rod suspension system. This system incorporates a bell-crank and dual-wishbones, on each of the four-corners, to actuate the internal vertically integrated spring and damper unit. This system reduces the unsprung mass, improves downforce, and promotes more responsive steering. The rack and pinion steering system is controlled using 3 distinctive servotronic drive select modes.
Pirelli rubber provides the sticking power; fronts are 255/35ZR19 and the rears are 335/30ZR20s. the brakes are carbon ceramic with six-piston front calipers and four-piston rears. All four rotors are cross-drilled and ventilated.
Propulsion comes via a mid-mounted 690-horsepower 6.5-liter V12 engine with electronically controlled variable valve timing and a dry sump oiling system. Mated to the big V12 engine is a four-wheel drive Haldex Generation IV 7-speed gearbox with a dry double-plate clutch and various manual drive select modes.
The Lamborghini Aventador 700-4 is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.8-seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 217 mph. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) is approximately $500,000 U.S.
