NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V332000

Kia Motors Recall Campaign Number: SC108

soul2Vehicles Affected: Certain 2014 Kia Soul vehicles manufactured from July 21, 2013 through January 17, 2014. Approximately 51,641 are expected for inclusion under this recall campaign.

Cause: The plug, designed to secure the pinion gear to the steering gear housing, may loosen due to an improper application of thread-locking compound during the assembly process.

Concern: As a result of the pinion gear separating from the steering gear, steering control could be lost, thereby greatly increasing the risk of a motor vehicle accident.

Correction: Kia Motors will notify owners with specific instructions for having the pinion-plug replaced, with the correct amount and type of thread locker. This recall is scheduled to begin in July of 2014 and will be completed free of charge. Vehicle owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542.

NOTE: If you feel that you own or operate a vehicle affected by this condition, then you may consider having it checked immediately, A total loss of steering control is one of the worst driving experiences that could ever occur.

NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V338000
General Motors Recall Campaign Number: 14179

atsVehicles Affected: Certain 2013 & 2014 Cadillac ATS vehicles manufactured from April 23, 2012 through March 20, 2014 and 2014 Cadillac CTS vehicles manufactured from June 10, 2013 through March 20, 2014. Approximately 90,750 vehicles are expected for inclusion in this recall campaign.

Cause: The transmission shift cable may detach from either the bracket on the transmission shifter or from the bracket on the transmission.

Concern: If the transmission shift cable is disconnected from either end, shifting from one gear to another will be impossible. If the cable is detached while the vehicle is in “drive” , when the car is brought to a stop and the shift selector is placed in the “park” position, the transmission will remain in the “drive” position. This could result in a “runaway car” scenario, placing untold numbers of bystanders and vehicle occupants in harm’s way.

CTSCorrection: GM will notify owners with specific instructions for having the vehicles in question inspected and repaired as necessary, at no charge. This recall campaign is expected to begin in August 2014. Vehicle owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-458-8006.

NOTE: If you feel that you own or operate a vehicle that is affected by this condition, use the parking brake without fail and avoid parking on steep grades. Have the condition repaired as soon as possible.

NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V374000
General Motors Recall Campaign Number: 14192

SierraVehicles Affected: Certain 2014 & 2015 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra vehicles, as well as certain 2015 GMC Yukon and Chevrolet Tahoe vehicles, equipped with four-wheel drive. Approximately 392,459 vehicles are expected for inclusion in this recall campaign.

Cause: The existence of an electrical system short could cause the transfer case to be shifted into neutral without the operator’s input or knowledge.

Concern: If the transfer case shifts into neutral while the vehicle is parked, without the parking brake activated, it could roll inadvertently and become a runaway vehicle, thus placing bystanders and vehicle occupants at risk of bodily harm. If the transfer case shifts into neutral while the vehicle is underway, it will lose power and could result in a motor vehicle crash.

If the transfer case switches to neutral while the vehicle is parked and the parking brake is not in use, the vehicle may roll away increasing the risk of injury to bystanders. If the transfer case switches to neutral while the vehicle is being driven, the vehicle would lose drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.

TahoeCorrection: GM will notify owners by mail with specific instructions for having the software re-programmed in the transfer case control module, free of charge. This recall is scheduled to begin in August 2014. Vehicle owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020.

NOTE: Please tell me that all of you guys and dolls use their parking brake religiously. Using your parking brake ensures that your vehicle is secure and it keeps the rear brakes adjusted correctly (on drum brake applications). If you feel that you own or operate a vehicle affected by this particular condition, then by all means, use the parking brake. If your truck shifts into neutral inadvertently, REMAIN CALM. Allow the vehicle to coast safely out of traffic and come to a complete stop. Place the shifter in the park position. Now, turn the ignition key off and open the driver door slightly. Close the door and restart the vehicle. This should temporarily get the vehicle going again, but get it repaired properly as soon as possible.

NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V386000

Mercedes-Benz Recall Campaign Number: none

SLK 250Vehicles Affected: Certain 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLK 250, SLK 350, SLK 55 AMG, SL 550, and SL 65 AMG vehicles manufactured from March 19, 2014 through May 5, 2014. Approximately 311 vehicles are expected for inclusion in this recall campaign.

Cause: A fault in the front passenger air bag could inhibit proper deployment in the event of a motor vehicle crash.

Concern: In the event of a crash, the front passenger seat occupant may be placed at a higher degree of risk if the airbag fails to fully and/or properly deploy.

sl65 amgCorrection: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail with specific instructions for having the front passenger airbag replaced, free of charge. Since parts that will remedy the condition are not currently available, Mercedes-Benz will mail an interim notification letter in July 2014, followed by a second notification letter when the parts become available. NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V394000
General Motors Recall Campaign Number: 14172

SRXVehicles Affected: Certain 2003-2014 Cadillac CTS vehicles manufactured from August 16, 2001 through April 28, 2014, and 2004-2006 Cadillac SRX vehicles manufactured from March 20, 2003 through August 11, 2006. Approximately 554,328 vehicles are expected for inclusion in this campaign.

Cause: The weight of the key-ring, key-fob, and other key-ring related items, combined with rough driving surfaces or other jarring events, may cause the ignition switch to be turned inadvertently to the “OFF” position.

cts 2Concern: If the ignition switch is not in the “RUN” position, electronically controlled systems could fail to operate properly. Among these systems are the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system, the fuel delivery system, and the engine ignition/control systems. Loss of the SIR system could mean that airbags will fail to deploy in the event of a motor vehicle crash. A total loss of engine power will result in a loss of power steering assistance, which could cause a motor vehicle crash.

Correction: GM will notify owners with specific instructions for receiving replacement keys, key-rings, and key-fobs, as needed and free of charge. The manufacturer has not yey released a schedule for this campaign but vehicle owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006.

NOTE: Please remove the ignition key from your key ring/s and operate the vehicle with the ignition key alone until the necessary repairs are concluded.

NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V421000
Mitsubishi Recall Campaign Number: none

LancerVehicles Affected: Certain 2004 & 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer vehicles currently registered in Florida, Puerto Rico, Hawaii and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and equipped with Takata-brand passenger side air bag inflators.

Cause: Excessive pressure allowed by a faulty regulator inside the airbag may cause it to rupture upon deployment.

Concern: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger side frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking and potentially seriously injuring the vehicle occupants.

Correction: Mitsubishi will notify owners by mail with specific instructions for having the faulty airbag replaced, free of charge. Mitsubishi is yet to disclose details regarding a schedule for this recall but vehicle owners may contact Mitsubishi customer service at 1-714-372-8000.
