NHSTA Campaign Number: 14V284000

EscapeFord Recall Campaign Number: 14S05

Vehicles Affected: Certain 2006 through 2011 model Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner vehicles manufactured between August 18, 2006 and September 11, 2010. Approximately 740,878 vehicles are included in this recall campaign.

Cause: The electronic power steering (EPS) assist system on the affected vehicles may be equipped with a faulty input torque sensor. The sensor measures the amount of torque delivered from driver input.

MArinerConsequence: If the sensor fails to precisely measure driver input, the EPS could perform at a substandard level and even become inoperative, altogether.

Correction: Vehicle owners will be notified by mail with instructions for having the faulty parts replaced at no charge. The repair could also include a software update for the power steering control module (PSCM) if the vehicle displays a history of fault codes related to the PSCM, torque sensor, or related components. The recall is expected to begin by July 25, 2014 and vehicle owners may contact Ford directly at 1-800-392-3673.

NOTE: Due to this vehicle’s front wheel drive configuration, sensitivity of steering is of a greater degree of concern. If you feel that you own a vehicle affected by this recall, avoid high-speed maneuvering until the necessary repairs are completed. (Then purchase a different vehicle before attempting any other high-speed maneuvers).

NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V285000

TaurusFord Recall Campaign Number: 14S08

Vehicles Affected: Certain 2010 through 2014 Ford Taurus vehicles manufactured between November 24, 2004 through February 28, 2014, initially purchased or under operation in the North American states of Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia, where salt is used to combat extreme cold weather road conditions. .Approximately 183,425 will be affected by this condition.

Cause: The electrical portion of the license plate lamp may become corroded by moisture, road salt, and sand, resulting in an electro-chemical reaction.

Consequence: The corrosion created by this condition could create an electrical short and greatly increase the risk of a vehicle fire.

Ford-Taurus-License-Plate-Light-Bulbs-Replacement-Guide-008Correction: Vehicle owners will be notified by mail with instructions for obtaining license plate lamp replacement, free of charge. This recall is scheduled to begin on July 25, 2014. Vehicle owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673.

NHSTA Campaign Number: 14V286000

Ford Recall Campaign Number: 14S06

ExplorerVehicles Affected: Certain 2011 through 2013 Ford Explorer vehicles manufactured from May 17, 2010 through February 28, 2012. Approximately 179,027 vehicles are expected to be involved in this campaign.

Cause: An intermittent open electrical circuit in the electronic power steering (EPS) system could result in a momentary loss of the motor position sensor signal to the electronic power steering control module (PSCM).

Consequence: A loss of motor position data to the PSCM could result in a loss of vehicle power steering (especially conspicuous at lower speeds), increasing the risk of a motor vehicle crash.

electro psCorrection: Beginning July 25, 2014, Ford will notify vehicle owners with instruction for safe vehicle repair, free of charge. Vehicles will be inspected to determine if they exhibit a history of trouble codes related to the PSCM. If so, repairs may include replacement of the power steering rack-and-pinion assembly, as well as a software update if necessary.

NOTE: To owners of affected vehicles; make sure that a free front end alignment goes along with the rack-and-pinion replacement, as the tie rod ends will have to be removed in the process. If you feel that your vehicle is affected by this condition, avoid high-speed driving maneuvers until the repairs are completed. You may contact the Ford Motor Company directly at 1-800-392-3673.
NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V235000

FiatChrysler/Fiat Recall Campaign Number: P23.

Cause: The affected vehicles have cooling fin plates, which are associated with the power inverter module (PIM), which could leak coolant onto areas of high voltage circuitry.

Consequence: As a result of the coolant leaking upon electrical circuitry, the respective fuse or fuses may short, culminating in a total loss of vehicle power. This condition could greatly increase the risk of a motor vehicle crash.

Fiat exploded viewCorrection: Chrysler will notify owners of affected vehicles with specific instructions for rectifying the situation, up to and including replacement of the PID, free of charge. This recall is expected to begin in June 2014. You may contact Chrysler/Fiat LLC at 1-800-853-1403.

GCCause: Drivers will experience slightly delayed deceleration when operating the vehicle with adaptive speed control, due to a problem with the driver assistance system module (DASM). The condition takes place if the driver manually increases acceleration, and then releases the accelerator without disengaging the adaptive speed control.

Jeep srt8Consequence: The inadvertent delay in deceleration could cause a motor vehicle collision in extreme circumstances.

ProMAsterChrysler Recall Campaign Number: P32

Vehicles Affected: Certain 2014 Ram ProMaster vehicles manufactured between April 23, 2014 and May 22, 2014. Approximately   17,726 vehicles will be recalled during this campaign.

Cause: Water intrusion around the floor mounted battery cover and door footwell trim could create a chemical-electrical reaction resulting in partial or full electrical failure.

Consequence: Affected systems in or near the footwell area may suffer electrical shortages from the corrosive compound caused by the introduction of moisture to electrical wiring and circuitry. Electrical shortages tend to result in blown fuses and inoperative vehicle systems. Specifically, the vehicle’s daytime running lamps, engine drivability, air bag operation, stop lamp operation, turn signal lamp operation, back-up lamp operation, and door lock operation; resulting in an overall unsafe environment and increasing the risk of a motor vehicle crash (with decreased protection for occupants should the airbag/s fail to deploy).

ProMAster 2Correction: Chrysler will begin the recall campaign in June of 2014. Repairs will be performed at no cost to vehicle owners and could be extensive, depending upon the results of a vehicle inspection.

  1. Recall 14s05 Ford will only do software update. If you have steering at time you go in for recall work this does not show in a diagnostic. The error only shows when you have no steering. I believe ford knows this and is being deceiving about this. I own a escape with this known steering problem. I had the recall work done with the understanding that software update would fix the steering problem. 3 weeks after software update my suv had sudden loss of steering with no chimes or message in message center. Fords software update does not work I repeat it does not work. Ford also will not replace torque sensor or steering as noted in recall. Ford is lying and not honoring recall 14s05 and thousands of recalled unsafe suv as mine is are still on the roads and highways driving along side all of you. Do you feel safe I know I dont.

    1. Sorry Karen, it sounds like you have a real lemon on your hands. Take it to the Ford dealer and camp out until they repair it. Thanks for the comment.
