Richard Petty’s Garage, Ford Motor Company, and Roush Racing are in collaboration to build a limited edition 627-horsepower 2015 Mustang GT. More accurately, the hot rod Mustang will be offered as a Stage 1 version (with a limited production of 100-units) and a more exclusive Stage 2 version. The Stage 2 version will have a limited run of only 43-units (King Richard’s legendary NASCAR number). The Limited Edition Mustangs, inspired by the Petty’s Garage Mustang displayed at last year’s SEMA show, carry an MSRP of $62,210 for the Stage 1 and $92,210 for the Stage 2. “We received a tremendous amount of positive feedback about our Petty’s Garage Mustang GT displayed at the SEMA show,” said Jeff Whaley, Petty’s Garage COO. “With so much interest, we began to explore the possibility of building a limited run of the Petty’s Garage Mustang GT.” Orders for this limited-edition Mustang GT can be placed at any Ford dealership on a first-come, first-served basis.
BACK IN BLACK (and BLUE)
The first Stage 2 Petty’s Garage Mustang GT has already been sold to Brian Johnson of the band AC/DC, a man who had never owned an American car (he’s from Great Britain, but now lives in Florida). “This Mustang has just taken my breath away,” said Johnson, lead singer for AC/DC. “It really is one of the best cars I’ve ever driven. I didn’t have an American car, but I do now!” If you hope to purchase one of the $92,210 Stage 2 cars, then you had better hurry — that only leaves 42 available.
The old adage says “it ain’t how you look, it is what you have under the hood” but the Petty Mustang has great looks and a ton of power. The Stage 1 car can be painted in virtually any color that the buyer chooses. Exclusive Petty’s Garage front and rear fasciae provide a unique appearance with the rear featuring a center exit exhaust point and race-inspired spoiler. All body and paint work is completed in house by Petty’s Garage. The Stage 1 car rides on 20-inch Petty’s Garage HRE FreeForm wheels with Continental tires. Interior accents for the Stage 1 Mustang include Richard Petty’s signature on the dashboard, custom embroidered head restraints, and exclusive floor mats.
The Stage 2 Mustang adds a Wildwood big brake upgrade, Petty’s Garage three-piece forged aluminum wheels, and a custom two-tone paint job. On the lower half of the car, Petty’s Garage uses crushed and tumbled glass mixed with iconic Petty Blue paint and an exclusive tri-coat pearlescent blend of Ford Tuxedo Black on the upper half. “The King’s” legendary number 43 is skillfully ghosted into the paint on the hood and C-pillar and specially designed graphics that match the Petty Blue paint adorn the windshield.
THUNDEROUS HOOF BEATS
The stock 2015 Ford Mustang GT comes with a 5.0-liter engine capable of producing 435-horsepower. Petty’s Garage adds a Roush Racing supercharger to bump the ponies up to 627. Other notable performance modifications include a less restrictive MagnaFlow exhaust system, custom engine calibration, and a cold air intake. Your choice of either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission is offered, along with a wide assortment of final drive gear ratios in a limited-slip rear differential.
