Those anxiously awaiting the opportunity to channel their inner Marty McFly are one step closer to their Back to the Future dreams. The all-new DeLorean DMC-12 is now available to order online.

The DeLorean was a unique car that stood out from everything else on the road even before it became famous in Back to the Future. Long after it went out of production, everyone wanted the time-travelling, flying car from the ’80s, even though it had its quirks.

Michael Gaines owned an original DeLorean DMC-12 and described something of a love/hate relationship with it. Getting repairs required a long drive to one of the few places capable of working on it, the horn was oddly-placed on the turn signal stalk, and getting a drive-thru order through that impossibly small window wasn’t easy. Still, nostalgia for the DeLorean remains strong, and a new modern version of the original is in the works. Gaines would buy a new one in a heartbeat.

DeLorean has a post up on their website with all the details on their new time-machine along with a nifty retro countdown clock that looks like it came straight out of the movie. The new DeLorean is set to be a low-volume car and is still in the process of obtaining regulatory approval. That approval is taking longer than anticipated, but the project is on track.

It will still be a few more months before production can start, but you can fill out a 2017 DeLorean Pre-Order Interest Application right now. The form is non-binding and it doesn’t guarantee you’ll be able to buy a DeLorean. Instead, it gives you priority with first notification and the chance to buy the car before orders open to the general public.

It’s a rather lengthy form that asks questions about your prior sports cars, transmission preferences, and if you’re a current DeLorean owner. They’re not taking your word on that last one. They also ask for the last five digits of the VIN as confirmation.

Perhaps the most interesting bit of the form is way down at the bottom above the legal mumbo jumbo. You can opt in to participate in a focus group and provide comments during the development process. Given how passionate DeLorean owners are about their cars, there are likely more than a few people who will happily click that box for a chance at a little behind-the-scenes of the car’s return.
