Hennessey HPE700 Mustang Beats the Hellcat by $10k and 10HP

Hennessey has introduced the HPE700. It is a 717-horsepower supercharged 2015 Mustang designed to make consumers say, “What the heck was a Hellcat?” and it is projected to sell for under $60k (approximately $10k below the MSRP of the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat).

With a resounding whoosh of bolt-on horsepower from a variety of supercharger manufacturers, the 2015 Ford Mustang seems to be on a proverbial collision course with the 707-horsepower 2015 Dodge Hellcat. Roush, Shelby, and Saleen have all stepped up to the plate to give their all in one mighty swing for the fences to restore the honor of the big blue oval. While all of these skilled modification experts have made gallant efforts, they have all fallen just short of the mark with sticker prices typically becoming the only thing soaring over the outfield fence. Enter the “Best Little Horsepower House in Texas.” Hennessey Performance Engineering has a sterling history of high-performance vehicle modification that includes the world record (top speed) holding Venom GT as well as numerous 1,200-horsepower-plus Corvette, Cadillac, Viper, Challenger, F-150, and Excursion projects. Now, with the HPE 700, this 717-hp animal undercuts the OEM by at least $10k.

The factory produced 2015 Ford Mustang GT is equipped with an already potent 5.0-liter V8 engine that is capable of producing 435-horspeower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque, a sport tuned suspension system with independent rear, and your choice of a six-speed manual or six-speed select-shift automatic transmission. Standard equipment includes electronic power steering assist, limited slip rear differential with a 3.31:1 final drive ratio (3.15:1, 3.55:1. And 3.73:1 Torsen are optional), electronic stability and traction control, vented four-wheel disc brakes with heavy-duty calipers, and a drag race inspired electronic line lock (with manual transmission) among many other things. Optional RECARO racing seats are among the highlighted equipment offered for the factory interior.

Most notably Hennessey adds a roots type supercharger capable of producing 7.25 psi of boost, complete with upgraded fuel injectors, fuel pump, and engine programmer recalibration software. Add a throttle body spacer and a free-flowing stainless-steel exhaust system and you arrive at the new horsepower output total of around 717. That is about as potent a street car as ever mass produced (albeit only 500 will be produced for 2015).

As expected the HPE 700 projects a low and lean appearance with various Hennessey badging further advertising the performance prowess of this menacingly intimidating machine. Numerous carbon-fiber body panels serve to reduce overall weight as well as providing necessary downforce and aerodynamic enhancements. The front and rear lip spoilers, side sills, rear diffuser, and front splitter are engineered by CarbonAero manufacturing to withstand combat conditions, on or off the track, and they look amazing.

Finishing touches include specially numbered plaques, exclusive HPE 700 floor mats, and H10 20-inch lightweight wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Super Sport 2 rubber.

Making 632 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,400 RPMs, the HPE 700 can turn the quarter mile in 11.2-seconds at a top speed of 132 mph and blast from 0 to 60 mph in only 3.6-seconds. While these figures sound like the Mustang is the new King of the Road keep in mind that the Challenger Hellcat and the Camaro Z28 both come from the factory with more horsepower than the Mustang and both are available with Hennessey modification kits that drive out at over 1,000-horsepower.

  1. Yes but it’s a Hennessey which means it will blow up after you drive it off their lot. Do your research people and if you really want a crook messing with your car, over tuning it for PR purposes only and over charging for you never know what your going to get… go for it!
