The Fate of the Furious it the eighth installment in the Fast and Furious franchise and it looks to have all the crazy that you’d expect. Plenty of cool cars, lots of explosions, and corny one-liners abound.
There are a few problems, like physics. You may notice the cars in this movie do things that simply wouldn’t work in the real world. We’re not talking about stunts the average mortal couldn’t pull off, but stunts that simply cannot be pulled off on this planet. Who cares?
This franchise has never been about science or reality, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. There’s no reason to pull off stunts that could happen when you can channel your inner Grand Theft Auto gangster and do the impossible.
Once again, we have the Rock and his amazing biceps playing a big part in the movie. He gets tossed in jail for a bit, but we all know that can’t last. They don’t have supercars or muscle cars or grappling hooks to shoot at each other in prison. They have to get the Rock out of there so he can go play with all the team’s amazing toys.
If you don’t want to know anything about the film, then you probably don’t want to watch because there is quite a lot revealed. The ending is still a secret, but you’ll get the whole storyline and more explosions than any movie not directed by Michael Bay should be legally allowed to show.
In the midst of those explosions there is talk about turning your back on family and being true to yourself and not abandoning those you love. That’s been a big theme throughout the franchise, but who are they kidding? We show up for the cars and the stunts and those explosions.
Making an appearance alongside the regular cast of characters is Charlize Theron as the villain and Kurt Russell as the official guy in the suit. The regular cars are there, too. There are Dodge Challengers and assorted other pieces of car eye candy as far as the eye can see.
And in an inspired bit of car chase mayhem, there’s a submarine. Yes, it’s actually involved in the chase so you’ll just have to watch the trailer to see how they heck they manage that one.
The Fate of the Furious hits theaters on April 14, 2017.
