The Dodge Challenger Hellcat made quite a splash a few years back, followed by the Dodge Demon. Those two cars need to step aside because now there’s a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye with 797 horsepower of muscle car fun.
The new Hellcat Redeye made its debut in Michigan today with a powerful production V8 that boasts 797 horsepower and 707 lb-ft of torque. It can do 0-60 mph in a blistering 3.4 seconds and has a top speed of 203 mph. It’s also the fastest grand touring production car with a quarter mile elapsed time of 10.8 seconds at 131 mph.
That power comes from a 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi high-output V8 engine paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Compared to the standard Hellcat engine, which also sees a power boost to 717 horsepower, the Redeye has:
- The largest supercharger of any production car with 2.7 liters versus 2.4 liters
- Increased boost pressure of 14.5 psi versus 11.6 psi
- Higher RPM limit of 6,500 rpm versus 6,200 rpm
- Two dual-stage fuel pumps versus one
- Larger induction air box with three sources of intake air.
Mash the gas on the Redeye and that engine sucks down 1.43 gallons of fuel per minute, which can drain the fuel tank in all of 11 minutes. Despite that number, it’s still rated at 22 mpg when you’re driving in normal highway conditions. As for the air intake source, there’s a new dual-snorkel hood, driver-side air catcher headlamp, and inlet near the wheel liner.
The 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye is due to start deliveries in the 4th quarter. Preorders and pricing have not yet been announced.
