Affording an education is just one challenge. Completing one while working is another. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles steps in to make both possible for all of its franchised dealers’ employees.
What if an employer could offer employees a reason to stay with the company long-term? Now image that incentive removes one of the most difficult challenges young people face today -how to find the time and money to go to college while needing to work. Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles U.S. is tackling that challenge in partnership with Strayer University. Called the degrees@work program, any Fiat, Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler, or Ram dealer employee can participate.
The program is intended to offer dealership employees the chance to earn a degree without any cost, and, therefore, no debt. The program is in collaboration with Strayer University. Strayer has been educating students for 120 years and now focuses on educating working adults. Classes are offered both on-campus and also on-line. Karl McDonnell, CEO of Strayer Education, which owns Strayer University commented on degrees@work, saying “We are proud to partner with an organization that is tackling national issues of college affordability and the skills gap head on. FCA US is creating new ways of learning that work for both the employer and the employee – skills are developed that immediately drive measurable results and employees are given a pathway to a college degree without debt.”
The employee-students are not the only winners. Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles openly admits its aim is to attract the best talent and to make FCA US an “Employer of Choice.” Attracting talent is a challenge in many markets and FCA US believes helping to position its employees for promotion will make it more competitive. The program is starting in the Southeast. 365 dealership locations are taking part.
