With the comings and goings of 2013’s Black Friday, and all of the chaos and rhetoric that it entails, let’s take a look at some radical automotive black packages.
No screaming, no pushing, and no long lines, just loads of shiny black paint and enough high-end horsepower to make anyone forget about the crowds, the prices, and especially the shopping mall.
2015 Chevrolet Tahoe Black Concept
Unveiled during last week’s 2013 SEMA Auto Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe Black version features a lowered stance, black accents, and a seriously sinister appearance.
Twenty-two inch black rims, darkened headlight lenses, dark tinted windows, and more aerodynamic lines lend a menacingly futuristic aura to this dusky hued full-sized Chevy SUV Concept.
On the inside — yep, you guessed it — black leather seating, console, and dash accents complimented with carbon flash metallic trim. All of the latest communication, audio, and technological amenities, including a high-resolution eight-inch diagonal LCD touch screen, are on hand as well in the luxuriously supple leather interior.
Equipped with an all-aluminum overhead cam 5.3-liter Vortec V8, the Tahoe Black has a top speed of 136 mph and produces 355-horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque. Shifting duties are handled with a Hydramatic 6L80 six-speed automatic transmission.
Standard features such as electronically controlled power steering, Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation technology, and Spark Ignition Direct Injection help to conserve fuel while ensuring reliability and performance.
It is slated for release in early spring of 2014.
2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series
Now, this is a whole lot of Mercedes and, yes it is available in a variety of colors (the yellow is available for a nominal fee of $16k extra). As hard, rare, and exotic as a black diamond, the SLS AMG Black Series is certainly not for the faint of heart. With an estimated price tag of $250,000, and as raw a demeanor as any vehicle that bears the three-pointed star, this is a very specialized coupe. From the “gull-wing” doors, to the aluminum space frame and nearly 200 mph top speed, the SLS Black screams exclusivity.
Only approximately 200 of these black beauties will make their way to North American shores, positioning the SLS Black to be one of the rarest and most unique rides on the road.
Can you say fast? How about zero-to-sixty in 3.2-seconds, with a standing quarter-mile time of only 11.2 seconds? The SLS Black features a 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 that pumps out 622-horsepower and 469 lb.-ft. of torque. An all aluminum engine block and cylinder heads, in thirty-two valve overhead cam configuration, with shortened intake manifold runners, improved valve timing, wider main bearings, forged rod and main bolts, and higher-pressure oiling system allow a peak horsepower RPM of 7,400 and peak torque is achieved at 5,500 RPMs.
A seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and shortened 4.44:1 final drive gear ratio add to the track ready feel. As does the electronically controlled limited slip rear differential, wider wheel base, and stiffer suspension.
Weight reduction modifications, including a carbon fiber under-body brace, hood, and drive shaft, as well as a titanium exhaust system, carbon-metallic brake system, and lithium-ion starter battery help to trim this black hearted beast to a svelte 3,650-pounds.
