With a groundswell of interest for the redesigned 2015 Ford Mustang, it just stands to reason that all eyes would be on the Saleen camp in anticipation of their annual Mustang package. While images remain scarce, the Saleen performance program remains similar to those of the last few decades. Saleen Performance typically offers Chevrolet Camaro, Dodge Challenger, and Ford Mustang packages in three different levels of performance modification. The “White Label” is a base performance package in which the engine remains naturally aspirated. The “Yellow Label” package offers a supercharged engine upgrade combined with a mid-grade suspension enhancement. The “Black Label” package is the top-tier version with a supercharged engine upgrade and a full racing suspension customization.

Of course, the 2015 Saleen S302 Mustang is focused on the Black Label Package that positions the driver on the cutting edge of engine performance and suspension tuning. Under the hood, a patented and innovative Saleen Supercharger twin-screw compressor system utilizes a simple roots-type design for optimum efficiency and reliability. This (eighth-generation Saleen Supercharger) is the most sophisticated unit to date. Base horsepower for the 2015 Ford Mustang GT, equipped with the 5.0-liter V8 engine, is 420-horsepower. Adding to this ample figure, Saleen not only employs the massive supercharger but also adds a specially designed performance exhaust system that is less restrictive than conventional exhaust systems. The reduced restriction allows the engine to utilize horsepower more effectively. A high-performance computer programmer ensures that the engine is properly tuned for optimum horsepower and a free-flowing cold air intake system affords the engine a steady supply of ambient air. Properly tuned the 2015 Saleen S302 Mustang Black will yield an astounding 640-horsepower and 565 lb.-ft. of torque.

Shifting duties are performed using your choice of a six-speed automatic with steering wheel mounted paddle shifters or a six-speed manual. A limited-slip differential is standard on the 2015 Mustang GT with multiple final drive gear ratios of 3.31:1, 3.55:1, or 3.73:1 available.

Keeping the S302 between the ditches is left to what Saleen calls a Series S4 high-performance system. This entails retuned front and rear springs (with fully adjustable coil-over suspension available as an option), specially designed anti-sway bars, and Watts linkage rear suspension as a possibility.

Bringing the S302 safely to a halt is not left to ordinary devices. Standard equipment braking for the Mustang GT includes 13-inch rotors with four piston front and single piston rear calipers but in the spirit of safety Saleen offers a slight modification. The Saleen Black is available with a “Big Brake Package” that includes 15-inch front rotors and 14-inch rear rotors (cross-drilled and ventilated, of course) with six-piston front calipers and four piston rear calipers. Showing off those brakes is easy with specially engineered Saleen 5-spoke wheels that are offered in chrome or black chrome. These 20-inch wheels are wrapped in high-speed Z-rated tires.

The exterior of the 2015 Saleen S302 Mustang includes custom tailored front and rear fascias, a grille and lower air dam that provide the supercharged engine with sufficient ambient air, a functional Saleen heat extractor hood that allows the engine to breathe during the hottest competition, a functional rear diffuser, and a high-downforce wing that offers premium aerodynamic performance at high speeds. Overall, the S 302 provides a silhouette that is wide and low with the stance of a predatory beast.
