Say hello to the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Red Vapor Edition, which made its stunning debut during last week’s Paris Motor Show. While no “Hellcat” edition of the time tested SUV is in the works, the 2015 model does boast improvements in horsepower and torque, advanced noise reduction technology, and at least one additional package feature. The “Red Vapor” package will offer three exclusive color schemes; Redline Red Pearl, Brilliant Black Crystal, and Bright White. In addition, the Red Vapor also includes specially designed 20-inch black-chrome five-spoke wheels and speed-rated tires, black SRT Red Vapor badging and grille inserts, a deep red engine cover, and a back-lit SRT steering wheel center emblem.
The manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $65,390 is only $15 over the price of the 2014 model Jeep GC SRT.
The SRT portion of the nomenclature denotes serious improvements under the hood of the Grand Cherokee. Instead of the hum-drum 3.6-liter PentaStar V6, the SRT version comes equipped with a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 capable of producing 475-horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. The sporty all-wheel drive SUV, with room for five-passengers, uses an eight-speed automatic transmission to blast from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.6-seconds. High-performance handling modifications include adaptive suspension, performance tuned power steering, Brembo brakes, and a limited-slip rear differential. The specially designed all-wheel drive system is geared more towards competitive driving than serious off-road maneuvering.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Package offers a panoramic sunroof and 19-speaker Harmon Kardon audio system, which the SRT model prohibits. However the SRT Red Vapor Package does include leather and suede seating surfaces with black, red, and carbon-fiber accents. A Blu-Ray compatible entertainment system is also available as optional equipment in the SRT. The twin-seat mounted displays are attached to the rear of the front seat headrests.
All 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee models sold with the upper level trim packages (including the SRT) are equipped with a rearview camera and dash mounted LED monitor and parking assist system. Additionally the SRT offers antilock disc brakes, electronic stability and traction control, front side airbags, side airbags, active front head restraints, as well as hill ascent and descent control. New for 2015 is a forward collision warning system with crash mitigation. This safety system utilizes laser technology to detect the potential of an eminent frontal crash. Once a crash has been detected, the system will initially warn the driver of the pending crash via audible and visual means. If the driver takes the appropriate action to negate the threat of a crash, then the system is disengaged and normal vehicle operation continues. If the driver fails to correct the vehicle’s progress appropriately, then the system will begin gradually braking until the threat of a frontal crash is negated. Blind spot monitoring, rear-cross path detection, and lane departure warning systems are all included as standard safety equipment for the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Red Vapor Edition.
