Combining the physical independence of the automobile with the virtual independence of 4GLTE WiFi is what Chevrolet refers to as “the new independence.” For 2015 General Motors will equip Chevrolet cars, trucks, and SUVs with OnStar 4GLTE connectivity making each unit a rolling WiFi hotspot.
Vehicle occupants can potentially connect their personal smart communication devices seamlessly to the internet. With an internet connection that is more powerful and reliable (greater bandwidth) than smartphones alone, occupants have the ability to enjoy up to seven individual devices at once. New vehicle purchases will include 3-months of service at 3GB/per month with a wide variety of plans available afterwards. Monthly and one-time plans begin at $5 and go up from there and a personal data calculator will help to determine the amount of service you need to handle all of you e-mails, games, navigational information, and musical entertainment needs.
Here are the initial ten vehicles offered with 4GLTE:
The Spark is a compact hatch-back car designed to “conquer the urban jungle,” according to Chevrolet. It yields great fuel economy and a reasonable price tag, beginning at just $12,000.
The zero-exhaust emission producing version of the Spark is the Spark EV. It can travel up to 80-miles on a single charge, pricing begins around $19,200, and can be fully charged in 7-hours (using the optional 240-volt charging system).
Sonic is the big sister of the Spark, with a larger overall profile and sportier powertrain. The Sonic is still a compact hatch-back that gains 40 mpg (combined) and can be purchased for a starting MSRP of $14,245.
This entry-level EV sedan utilizes battery power as a primary source of propulsion and taps internal combustion as a secondary. It features four-drive modes, a myriad of great looking colors, a starting MSRP of $26,670, and an average distance of 900 miles between trips to the pump.
This is a whole new Malibu. It has an exterior appearance that rivals any European sedan, at a fraction of the cost. A wide selection of capable powertrain configurations combined with seemingly endless interior and exterior combinations yields a truly unique driving experience. MSRP beginning at around $22,465.
If a full-size sedan is what you require, the Impala is one of the finest available. Offering diverse engine choices, astounding color options, and elegant interior trappings, the Impala starts at $27,060 and looks like a million-bucks.
The latest in a long line of great American supercars, the 2015 Corvette offers competition-grade handling and performance with a starting MSRP of $54,000. It is available as a coupe or a convertible in a variety of colorful combinations.
This crossover SUV is available in front or all-wheel drive configurations, with room for five passengers and over 60-cubic feet of cargo area, and has a starting MSRP of $24,520.
The all-new redesigned Colorado has a rugged exterior appearance to go along with 4GLTE and unique 8-inch color touch radio. With a starting MSRP of $20,120, a 300-horsepower engine, and 27 mpg (combined) fuel efficiency rating, the Colorado looks to be a contender among mid-size trucks.
After winning the 2014 North American Truck of the Year Award, the Silverado adds 4GLTE (on select models) and direct fuel injection for an even more complete pickup package.
