With less than a week to go until the North American International Auto Show, in Detroit, automakers are leaking photos and teasing videos of their upcoming debut vehicles. America’s Motor City is putting the final spit and polish on meticulous preparation in what promises to be a memorable 25th Anniversary Event.
Here is an update on the latest from the 2014 NAIAS in Detroit, broken down car-by-car.
The introduction of the 2015 Acura TLX Prototype performance luxury sedan promises to be fantastic. With the discontinuation of the TSX and TL models, Acura hopes to clarify their three new sedan levels: The entry-level ILX, mid-level TLX, and the flagship RLX Sports Sedan. The TLX Prototype will feature more emotional styling and two all-new engine choices that will yield an even more athletic level of performance.
The rapidly rising German automaker, Audi plans to unveil a Crossover SUV Concept slated to begin production in 2016. Tentatively named the Q1, this high-tech Crossover coupe crouches with the stance of a hungry cat awaiting her prey. A high center of gravity, large 19-inch wheels, and an immaculate interior are characteristics of this groundbreaking concept. Audi is expected to present other vehicles, as well including the R8.
Competing for the top-European automaker spot, BMW will present the all-new 2015 2-Series coupes, along with the 2015 M-Sport sedan and coupe. Known as the M3 and M4, respectively, the ever popular performance line is expected to be a huge hit in Detroit.
The ATS, by Cadillac has earned a loyal following which the American luxury automaker hopes to enlarge with the ATS Coupe. Cadillac hopes to compete with the BMW 4-Series, Audi 5s, and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class with this new reasonably priced (in comparison) coupe that will offer several exciting engine choices, including two different four-cylinders (one naturally aspirated and one-turbocharged) and two V6 choices.
In one of the most exciting debuts of the 2014 NAIAS, Chevy will introduce the 2015 Corvette Z06. It is a premium sports car that borders on an all-out racing version. The engine is expected to be a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that will produce in excess of 600-hp. Along side the Z06, expect to see Chevrolet’s full racing C7.R Corvette which Chevy plans on campaigning to further dominance during January’s 24-hours of Rolex in Daytona, Florida, USA.
Feeling right at home in Detroit, Chrysler will roll out the 200, a mid-sized sedan available in a variety of trim levels and powertrain configurations. In addition, Dodge will introduce the Dart in a Blacktop package, which incorporates black wheels, stealthy exterior effects, a slight performance upgrade, and unique interior accents.
With plans to unveil the 2015 Ford Mustang, look for “Big-Blue” to be in a mood for celebration; 50-continuous years in production is plenty to celebrate about. Ford also plans to take the wrapper off the new 2015 F-150, America’s most popular vehicle, with notable weight reduction strategies implemented and improved fuel mileage.
The mid-sized Canyon Pickup will be unveiled in Detroit, with three engine options. A four-cylinder, V6, and an exciting small turbocharged diesel are expected.
The redesigned U.S. Market Honda Fit will be in attendance with more cargo room, spirited new styling, and the latest in connected-drive compatibility options.
The HCD-14, with all of its futuristic driver interface technology, is expected to show-up with yet more innovation. Highlights of the HCD-14 include a 3-D Hand Gesture Recognition system and Driver Eye Tracking system, both of which allow the vehicle to autonomously interact with the driver.
The luxury line of Nissan is expected to deliver a high-performance Q50 Eau Rouge . Carbon-fiber exterior panels, dual-sport exhaust, integrated rear spoiler, and 21-inch alloy wheels are among the extras listed on this unique Q50 Concept. Infiniti released teaser photos only days ago.
A 300+ horsepower 2+2 sports car, called the Stinger GT4 Concept is expected to make its debut, for Kia, in Detroit. Who said that the Koreans don’t make a performance car?
The first photos of the 2015 Lexus RC-F sports coupe have just been released, 5 days prior to the 2014 NAIAS in Detroit. It is expected to feature a 460-hp V8 engine, impressive styling, and elegant interior. If the exterior appearance is any indication, then this will be one to be remembered.
The GLA 45 AMG by Mercedes-Benz was prototyped at the LA Auto Show in 2013. It will be unveiled as a 2014 model production ready vehicle at the NAIAS in Detroit. This high-line mid-sized SUV can reach 60 mph in just 4.8-seconds. It is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that produces an astounding 360-hp. The all-new C-Class is also expected to make an impact with more modern and aerodynamic styling combined with the Mercedes-Benz standard-setting degree of elegance.
This British based branch of the BMW Network has chosen 2015 to completely redesign its entire automotive image. The Mini John Cooper Works hardtop will be unveiled for the first time ever at the NAIAS Detroit. This sports car, named after Mini’s founding father, will offer sport brakes, steering, and a spirited exterior package, as well.
This Japanese automaker will debut what it calls a Sports Sedan Concept which will push the envelope of high-performance combined with the lavish trappings of a luxury sedan. Also expected to make an appearance are the IDx Freeflow and IDx NISMO Concepts, which made their worldwide debut late last year in Tokyo, Japan.
Subaru announced last week that they would introduce the newly redesigned WRX STi Sedan. This performance geared sedan will be sold with a 2.0-liter turbocharged boxer four-cylinder engine that produces approximately 300-hp. A more aerodynamic appearance that includes a higher deck lid and more European lines is anticipated.
A look at the long awaited Toyota Sports Car Concept is only days away. Is this the new Supra or will Toyota stun with the promised collaboration between themselves and BMW? Just five more days and these questions will be answered.
Plans to unveil the BlueMotion Concept sedan, which boasts a serious cylinder deactivation system. Why? Because the BlueMotion has only four-cylinders, to begin with. Also expected is the U.S. version of the sporty Golf R; with 290-horsepower, this Volkswagen is the most powerful one of its era.
The Swedish automaker plans to introduce the Concept XC Coupe, which drives like a car with the cargo and passenger capacity of an SUV. Volvo just released the teaser video of this thing and it looks awesome.
