Ford GT

North American International Auto Show 2015: Ford GT

Posted by

The Ford GT is only the most hotly awaited supercar in a generation. The last Ford GT was an icon, but this one serves to indicate that Ford isn’t going to be synonymous with V-8 power any longer. The aluminum and carbon fiber Ford GT’s engine delivers 600hp, but it’s from a twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V-6.

What Does Ford Say?
“As we at Ford drive innovation into every part of our business, it’s worth remembering that our first innovation as a company was not in a laboratory, but on the racetrack,” said Mark Fields, Ford president and chief executive officer, referring to Henry Ford’s win of a 1901 car race that inspired financial backers to invest in his company. “We are passionate about innovation through performance and creating vehicles that make people’s hearts pound.”

When Does It Go On Sale?
No word on an on-sale date yet.

  1. I found this interesting little bit of info re: the new GT, designed under the radar: ”
“Just a small number of employees had keys — actual metal keys were used, rather than Ford’s standard-issue electronic ID cards — and much of the work happened at night. When the team of six designers, who couldn’t tell family and friends what they were doing, needed to see their creation in natural light or from more than a few feet away, they surreptitiously hauled it outside on weekends when no one else was around.”
