For more than five decades Porsche has provided quality automobiles to car enthusiasts around the world. Very few, if any, automakers are more renowned for quality and craftsmanship than this Stuttgart based entity. Adding to the roster of amazing Porsche vehicles offered for 2014, is the 2015 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS series. Designed with intentions of filling a gap between the regular Porsche Carrera or the Carrera S and the more radical Porsche 911 Carrera GT3 and Turbo models, it will be offered as either a coupe or a Cabriolet. This is only the second time that a GTS Carrera has been offered and it not likely scheduled for a lengthy engagement, so get ‘em while they are hot. With an expected manufacturer’s suggested starting retail price (MSRP) of $115,195 for the hardtop and $127,095 for the convertible (including destination fee) there should be plenty to go around.
The new 2015 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS will feature a 3.8-liter flat-six engine that is capable of producing 430-horsepower and accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in under 4-seconds. That translates into 30 more horsepower and nearly a full second faster than the Carrera S; characteristics attributed to the addition of the Carrera S Powerkit, Sport Chrono Package, specialty tuning, and a Sport Exhaust system as standard equipment on the GTS. A seven-speed manual transmission is standard equipment with a PDK dual-clutch transmission offered as optional equipment. Rear-wheel drive is standard but optional all-wheel drive is also available (for an additional $6,700). The addition of a Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system with active suspension damper helps to enhance handling performance by lowering the overall ride height by 10-millimeters. Top speed ranges from 187 to 190 mph, depending upon drivetrain choices.
Aesthetically the new 2015 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS presents a wide athletic stance that is similar to the Carrera 4 models (regardless of whether it is rear or all-wheel drive). They are equipped with 20-inch center lock wheels finished in gloss black, exclusive trim elements, tinted bi-xenon headlights, and black chrome plated tail pipes. Black trim strips on the customized GTS air intake further distinguish the GTS from other 911 models.
The interior of the GTS is virtually identical to other Carrera models with an abundance of Alcantara covered surfaces contributing to the luxuriously sporty driver friendly environment.
The 2015 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS is expected to make its official world debut during the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show, which takes place next month. The new Carrera GTS is expected to hit showroom floors immediately following the 2014 LA Auto Show in November.
