Ford Mustang Mach-E: Everything You Need to Know

Posted by

The official launch of Ford’s Mustang Mach-E, an electric crossover that should outperform the Tesla Model S at 2/3 the price, is happening Sunday, November 17 at 6:30 PST (9:30 EST). There’s some official info on the car at Ford’s media site, but there’s also been some creative sleuthing by the Mach-E Forum, which found a since-pulled page on Ford.com that laid out all the details.

The all-electric Mustang Mach-E will make its debut Nov. 17 at an event in Los Angeles that will be streamed on YouTubeFacebook and Twitter. Actor Idris Elba — Stringer Bell from the HBO series The Wire, the star of the terrific BBC series Luther and a proposed candidate for the next James Bond — will help introduce the latest addition to the Mustang family.

Immediately following the broadcast – which ends at approximately 6:30 p.m. PST (9:30 p.m. EST) – Ford will open reservations to purchase the Mustang Mach-E at Ford.com.

By placing a $500 refundable deposit, customers can reserve a spot for the Mustang Mach-E. There’s some buzz about the limited First Edition, details of which were supposed to be released for November 17.

Unfortunately for some soon-to-be fired software engineer at Ford.com, that electric horse has already left the barn.

We’re not going to reveal it here, but we will point you to the page where screenshots exist at MachEforum.com. Suffice it to say that the information within — if it ends up being exactly what’s released on November 17 — is pretty amazing. Tesla-like range. Mustang GT-like 0-60 times. A price — even at the top of the line — that should entice a whole lot of people away from the startup brand, and over to one with experience delivering automobiles.

That’s always been the threat to Tesla: What happens when traditional auto manufacturers figure out how to produce an automobile that performs just as well, but thanks to economies of scale with its massive network of suppliers, one that doesn’t cost luxury car money? We’re about to find out.

Tune into Ford’s livestream at any of the social channels on Sunday night to get the official news.
