Intake Valve Control Solenoid Circuit Range/Performance Bank 2
This code indicates a fault in the electro-hydraulic VCS or VVT intake valve control system for bank 2.
Code Set Parameters
Any voltage variation in the VCS or VVT electrical system that exceeds 10-percent of the reference value should store a trouble code in the PCM and cause a malfunction indicator lamp to be illuminated.
These could include roughness at idle, choppy acceleration, decreased engine performance, and substandard fuel efficiency.
The most common cause of this code being stored is low oil pressure or oil level. Since the control system is actuated using oil pressure, oil level and viscosity are critical to normal operation. Electrical wiring and connectors are also common causes of concern, particularly where leaking fluids are present. Valve and solenoid failure are rare but possible and PCM failure is even rarer.
PCM and/or control valve replacement are frequently performed in error when low oil pressure, low oil level, or clogged oil passages are the culprit.
- Begin your diagnosis by visually inspecting all wiring and connectors
- Look for shorted or burned wiring and replace circuitry and connectors as required
If the system wiring, connectors, and components appear to be in normal working order, connect the scanner to the diagnostic connector and record all stored trouble codes and freeze frame data
- This information can be extremely helpful in diagnosing intermittent conditions that may have contributed to this code being stored
- After the codes are cleared, operate the vehicle to see if the code returns
- If the code fails to immediately return, you may have an intermittent condition
- Intermittent conditions can prove to be quite a challenge to diagnose and in extreme cases may have to be allowed to worsen before a correct diagnosis can be made.
Typically the PCM has not detected the desired response to one or more electronic commands and a code has been set
- The most likely reported cause of this code is low oil level, with other causes including a faulty control solenoid or actuator, clogged oil passages, or misaligned timing belt or chain
- Checking engine oil level and/or pressure will normally yield the cause of this condition
- If no abnormalities are detected in the oiling system, test electrical wiring and connectors (especially where corrosive liquids are present).
