Fuel Shutoff Valve “A” Control Circuit High
This code is indicative of a voltage reading that is higher than normal in the electrical circuit for the fuel shutoff valve.
Code Set Parameters
Differences in system voltage that exceed 10-percent from battery voltage will store a code in the PCM.
A code is stored in the PCM and a service engine soon light is illuminated. A no start condition may also be exhibited.
Broken or shorted electrical wiring, disconnected or corroded connectors, or a faulty fuel shutoff valve are the most likely causes. Techs report corrosion in the electrical connector of the shutoff valve as a possible cause.
Although a faulty PCM or fuel shutoff valve are possible causes of this code, the failure of these two components is rare. The most likely causes are broken, disconnected, or corroded electrical wiring or connectors. Corroded wiring connectors near the shutoff valve can cause excessive resistance in the electrical circuit for the fuel shutoff valve.
- Open or shorted circuits can be tested using a voltage drop method, using battery voltage as a reference point for power and ground circuits
- Component testing can be performed using manufacturer’s specifications
- Carefully exhaust all faulty wiring and connector possibilities before condemning the fuel shutoff valve or PCM
- Some technicians have reported that the presence of corrosion in or near the shutoff valve electrical connector can cause excessive resistance when the circuit is activated, while exhibiting a normal appearance when the circuit is not activated.
Begin your diagnosis by visually inspecting all wiring and connectors
- Look for shorted or burned wiring and replace circuitry and connectors as required
If the system wiring, connectors, and components appear to be in normal working order, connect the scanner to the diagnostic connector and record all stored trouble codes and freeze frame data
- This information can be extremely helpful in diagnosing intermittent conditions that may have contributed to this code being stored
- After the codes are cleared, operate the vehicle to see if the code returns
- If the code fails to immediately return, you may have an intermittent condition
- Intermittent conditions can prove to be quite a challenge to diagnose and in extreme cases may have to be allowed to worsen before a correct diagnosis can be made.
