Pickups, vans, and SUVs are everywhere; among new vehicle buyers, they are a popular choice.  Available in a wide variety of styles and sizes, from rugged to luxurious, and everything in between; one thing that they aren’t known for is being inexpensive. Having said that, let’s take a look at some of the best selling models of this group: the SUVs. More specifically, the ten best SUVs available for under $25,000.

10. 2014 Subaru Forester

Subaru offers this compact SUV with a great deal of car-like characteristics, including comfort and handling. It is an all-wheel drive compact SUV which is equipped with a 2.5-liter boxer four-cylinder engine. Starting manufacturer’s suggested sale price (MSRP) is $22,820 and EPA fuel economy ratings are 24 mpg city/32 highway.

09. 2014 Kia Sorento

This Korean automaker just keeps turning out more and more impressive automobiles. The ’14 Sorento offers four and six-cylinder engine choices with a starting MSRP of $24,950. The EPA estimates fuel efficiency for the Sorento at 20 mpg city/24 highway. Front-wheel drive is standard, with a six-speed automatic transmission.

The Santa Fe features one of the most exquisite interiors in its class, its simplistic design combined with top-quality materials and construction gives it an expensive feel. The starting MSRP for the Santa FE is $24,757 and it achieves impressive fuel economy numbers of 20 mpg city/27 highway.

07. 2014 Mazda CX-5

The Mazda entry to this field offers a low MSRP of $21,384 and a lot of fuel efficiency, at 26 mpg city/35 highway. Front-wheel drive, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, and six-speed manual transmission are standard, with four-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic optional.

06. 2014 Nissan Rogue

The all-new and eagerly anticipated Rogue is available at a starting MSRP of $23,350. A 2.5-liter engine and continuously variable transmission help the Rogue put up EPA estimated fuel efficiency ratings of 26 mpg city/33 highway. The interior is classy, but the absence of a V-6 engine option is disturbing, at best.

05. 2014 Toyota RAV 4

The XLE version is equipped with a 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine and front-wheel drive six-speed automatic transmission. Toyota delivers again with a top-tier compact SUV, coming in with a starting MSRP of only $24,410. Fuel economy is estimated at 24 mpg city/31 highway.

04. 2014 Jeep Wrangler

Guts, is what this Jeep entry has. A 3.6-liter 285-horsepower V6 engine, four-wheel drivetrain, and six-speed manual transmission (with hill hold) are standard, with an optional five-speed automatic transmission available as optional equipment. Despite its ample power, the Wrangler boasts fuel efficiency ratings of 17 mpg city/21 highway with a starting MSRP of $23,390.

Honda is one of the most trusted names in the automotive industry, and the ’14 model CR-V continues the tradition. A 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, front-wheel drivetrain, and five-speed automatic transmission are standard equipment, at a starting MSRP of $23,775. The latest offering in this time tested line gets a fuel efficiency rating of 23 mpg city/31 highway.

A starting MSRP of $23,995 and a fuel economy rating of 22 mpg city/31 highway, coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, and front-wheel drivetrain as standard equipment make the ’14 Escape a contender. Optional all-wheel drive and a turbocharged four-cylinder 2.0-liter engine are also available.
