The front-wheel-drive 2008 Suzuki Reno is powered by an economical 2.0L DOHC four-cylinder engine making 127 horsepower, mated to either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. The automatic has a "hold" mode switch to reduce hunting between gears in hilly terrain or when carrying fully loads. With the five-speed manual, the Reno gets EPA fuel economy ratings of 20 mpg city, 28 mpg highway.
A four-wheel independent suspension gives the Reno a smooth ride over choppy road surfaces, while the five-door hatchback layout and long wheelbase affords good use of interior space. With the 60/40-split back seats folded forward, the flat cargo space can be expanded to a roomy 45.4 cubic feet. The driver's seat comes with height and lumbar adjustments.
Driver and front passenger seat-mounted side air bags are standard on the Reno. Four-wheel disc brakes are standard, but anti-lock--including electronic brakeforce distribution--is optional.
The Reno's warranty is also particularly attractive. As with other Suzuki vehicles, it gets a seven-year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty that's fully transferable and has no deductible.
Feature-wise, the Reno comes with more standard equipment--and attention to interior appointments--than most other cars with such a low price tag. Features include a lighted trunk and glovebox, a sunglasses holder, map pockets, and several other storage compartments, plus additional acoustic insulation to keep the interior quiet. Other standard features include air conditioning, tilt steering, a rear defroster, an MP3-compatible CD sound system, heated side mirrors, and power windows, mirrors, and locks.
A Convenience Package, available for only slightly more than the base model, adds remote keyless entry, a security system, steering-wheel-integrated audio controls, and cruise control.
Convenience features; low entry price; lengthy warranty; convenient five-door body style; smooth ride.
For the 2008 Suzuki Reno, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls are now included with the optional Convenience Package, and the top-of-the-line Luxury Edition has been discontinued. Otherwise the Reno is carried over to 2008 with few other changes.
A long list of standard convenience features for the price, along with an especially strong warranty, are the primary selling points for the 2008 Suzuki Reno, which is closely related to the Forenza sedan and assembled by GM Daewoo in South Korea. The Reno also stands out for having a smooth ride and impressive interior space relative to other small cars its size.
