Interior space; available all-wheel drive; standard features and value.
The uniquely styled Suzuki Aerio sedan has an especially roomy interior among small cars for 2007. With its tall roofline, the Aerio has expansive headroom front and back and offers a tall driving position for a good view during city driving.
The Aerio sedan offers a 155-horsepower 2.3L four-cylinder engine, paired with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. The QuadGrip all-wheel-drive system, which is available on automatic-transmission Aerios, sends nearly all engine torque to the front wheels during normal driving but it can reroute up to 50 percent to the rear wheels when the front wheels lose traction. Anti-roll bars are included front and back for better handling.
Front passenger-seat-mounted side air bags are standard on all models. The Aerio has been an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Best Pick, and has achieved a top five-star rating in the federal government's side-impact test for front passengers.
For a very low entry price, the Aerio brings a long list of standard equipment, including air conditioning with automatic climate control, cruise control, keyless entry, an MP3-compatible CD sound system with six speakers and steering-wheel controls, and power windows, locks, and mirrors.
The Premium Package adds automatic transmission, along with a six-disc CD changer and seven-speaker setup, power heated side mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and alloy wheels. There are no factory-installed options, but an integrated iPod interface is available as a dealer-installed option.
The Aerio, along with other Suzuki models, has a fully transferable, 100,000-mile or seven-year limited powertrain warranty.
The Suzuki Aerio continues for 2007 as a sedan only; the Aerio wagon has been replaced with the new SX4 hatchback, and an SX4 sedan will replace the Aerio sedan for 2008.
There are only slight equipment changes to the Aerio for 2007. The Premium model now includes standard cruise control and automatic transmission.
The 2007 Suzuki Aerio has one of the roomiest interiors of small sedans its size, due to its tall roofline. It is an extremely strong value, with no factory options and a full range of standard features normally optional on a small car in this price class. It also stands out as offering all-wheel drive in a segment where it's not widely available, and is rated highly for safety among small cars.
