Model Highlights

The Subaru Legacy family is available in sedan or wagon body styles in a wide range of variants for 2007. The Legacy 2.5 i, 2.5 i Special Edition, and 2.5 i Limited, along with the Outback 2.5 i Basic, 2.5 i, 2.5 i L.L. Bean Edition, 2.5 i Limited, and 2.5 i Limited L.L. Bean Edition models get a 175-horsepower 2.5L horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine. Legacy 2.5 GT Limited and 2.5 GT spec.B and Outback 2.5 XT Limited models have a 243-horsepower 2.5L turbocharged flat-four. And the top Outback 3.0 R L.L. Bean Edition gets the smooth 245-horsepower, 3.0L flat-six engine.

The Legacy 2.5 GT Limited Wagon and 3.0 R L.L. Bean Edition have a standard five-speed automatic transmission; Special Edition 2.5 i models have a standard four-speed automatic. Most other models have a standard five-speed manual with an automatic optional, except spec.B models, which have a six-speed manual standard.

All Legacy and Outback models have all-wheel drive systems. Legacy models have a suspension tuned for good on-road performance and handling, while Outback models have a heavy-duty, raised suspension with up to 8.7 inches of ground clearance that's oriented toward unpaved roads and trails.

Base Legacy 2.5 i models come equipped modestly but with most common conveniences such as power windows, locks, and mirrors, air conditioning, cruise control, keyless entry, alloy wheels, and a 100-watt, MP3-compatible CD sound system with auxiliary input and six speakers. Special Edition models add a power driver's seat and power moonroof, while the 2.5 i Limited includes heated front seats and mirrors, a six-disc CD changer, dual-zone climate control, fog lamps, leather trim, and a wiper de-icer.

2.5 GT models get a new Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-Drive) system, which enables three different levels of engine performance, Intelligent, Sport, and Sport Sharp. The new performance-oriented 2.5 GT spec.B Sedan also gets an exclusive Bilstein Sport Suspension with aluminum suspension components, inverted struts, 18-inch alloy wheels with summer performance tires, special ground effects, interior trim, and a standard navigation system (available on GT Limited). The 2.5 GT Limited along with the spec.B, also gets a quicker steering ratio, larger front brake rotors, and ventilated rear rotors.

The more ruggedly styled Outback is also available in both sedan and wagon variants, but as a sedan it's only available in top Limited or L.L. Bean trim. Wagon Outbacks come in a 2.5 i Basic model, which roughly compared with the Legacy 2.5 i, and the range progresses all the way up to the L.L. Bean Edition models, which add a standard navigation system, aluminum wheels, and upgraded power seats along with a special two-tone scheme.

Front-seat side-impact air bags, side-curtain air bags for all outboard occupants, and active front head restraints are standard on all models, as are anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution. The Legacy is a top performer in crash tests, and an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick Gold.

Model News

The performance-oriented Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT spec.B, which was offered as a limited-edition model for 2006, becomes a regular model for 2007. The spec.B, along with GT Limited models, gets a new Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-Drive) system that allows three levels of engine performance. Other performance equipment is now standard as well.

There are also a number of smaller equipment changes to the lineup. All Legacy sedans now get the 60/40 split-fold rear seat with trunk pass-through, automatic-transmission Legacys now come pre-wired for remote engine start, and all models with cloth seat fabric get a revised material. Limited and spec.B models get a new audio system with an auxiliary input and XM satellite radio compatibility; GT Limited models get a new wheel design; and GT models get a new gauge cluster with ECO gauge and upshift light for cars with manual transmission.

Value Writeup

The 2007 Subaru Legacy and its stable mate, the Outback, span a wide range of appeal with the frugal base model, high-performance 2.5 GT and spec.B, and rugged Outback series. The spec.B is an attractive alternative to some of the more affordable European sports sedans, while the Outback has just the right amount of ruggedness, and better fuel economy, to attract SUV shoppers. All models offer a full roster of safety features, along with all-weather all-wheel drive, making them especially sound buys.

Summary
SUBARU IS RECALLING 16,715 MY 2007-2008 LEGACY SEDAN AND WAGON, MY 2008 IMPREZA SEDAN AND WAGON, AND MY 2009 FORESTER VEHICLES. SOME VEHICLES MAY HAVE THE CYLINDER HEAD-SIDE OIL SUPPLY PIPE AND TURBOCHARGER-SIDE PIPE IMPROPERLY ASSEMBLED.

Consequence
VIBRATION WOULD OCCUR WHILE DRIVING, AND OVER TIME COULD EVENTUALLY RESULT IN CRACKING THE PIPE, WHICH WOULD ALLOW OIL TO LEAK. IF LEAKING OIL CONTACTS COMPONENTS OPERATING AT HIGH TEMPERATURES, AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE COULD OCCUR.

DEALERS WILL INSPECT FOR CRACKING OR AN OIL LEAK AT THE OIL SUPPLY PIPE AT THE CYLINDER HEAD-SIDE. AN ADDITIONAL BRACKET WILL BE INSTALLED TO INCREASE RIGIDITY OF THE PIPE AND THE PIPE ASSEMBLY WILL BE REPLACED WITH A MODIFIED PART. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING NOVEMBER 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT SUBARU AT 1-800-782-2783.

SUBARU RECALL NO. WVF-16. CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.

Summary
Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain model year 2005-2009 Outback and Legacy, 2008-2011 Impreza and 2008-2014 Impreza WRX/STI, and 2009-2013 Forester vehicles, currently, or formerly, registered in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. Salt water could splash on the brake lines through a gap in the fuel tank protector, resulting in excessive corrosion of the brake lines. Note that affected vehicles not currently, or formerly registered, in the salt belt states identified above are eligible for repair, at no cost to the customer, upon request.

Consequence
Brake line corrosion may result in brake fluid leakage. Fluid leakage may result in longer distances being required to slow or stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Subaru will notify owners, and dealers will test the brake system by depressing the brake pedal and inspecting for brake fluid leaks. If no brake fluid seepage is observed, the affected areas will be rustproofed with anti-corrosion wax. If brake fluid seepage is observed, the brake lines will be replaced followed by rustproofing with anti-corrosion wax. These services will be performed free of charge. The recall began July 2014 and second notifications will run through November 2014. Owners may contact Subaru at 1-800-782-2783. Subaru's recall campaign number is WQK-47. Note: This recall supersedes recall 13V-110 which applied to certain 2005-2009 Legacy/Outback vehicles. Vehicles that were remedied under the previous campaign still need additional areas rust-proofed.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Summary
Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain model year 2007-2009 model year Legacy and Outback vehicles, 2008-2014 Impreza vehicles and 2009-2013 Forester vehicles, all equipped with turbo-charged engines. The relay that controls the secondary air injection pump may fail, causing the pump to continuously operate and overheat.

Consequence
If the air injection pump overheats, it may melt and increase the risk of a fire.

Subaru will notify owners, and dealers will replace the secondary air injection pump relay, free of charge. The recall began December 2016. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-800-782-2783. Subaru's number for this recall is WTM-73.

Summary
Subaru of America, Inc. The brake lines may experience brake line corrosion due to salt water splashing on the brake lines through a gap in the fuel tank protector.

Consequence
Brake fluid may leak due to the brake line corrosion and may result in longer distances being required to slow or stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Subaru will notify owners, and dealers will apply an anti-corrosion wax to the four-way joint connector area of the brake line system, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on January 26, 2015. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-800-782-2783. Subaru's number for this recall is WQQ-52. Notes: This recall is specific to affected Forester, Impreza, WRX, and STI customers who had their car remedied under NHTSA recall no. 14V-311 prior to December 23, 2014. Subaru has determined that this remedy was inadequate due to incomplete repair instructions provided to dealers. Affected Forester, Impreza, WRX, and STI vehicles that were not repaired under NHTSA recall no. 14V-311 prior to December 23, 2014 will continue to be processed under NHTSA recall no. 14V-311. Affected vehicles not currently, or formerly, registered in the salt belt states identified in this recall are eligible for repair, at no cost to the customer, upon request.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Crash Test Note
Results based on a 35 MPH frontal crash and 38.5 MPH side crash. Results are reported in a range of one to five stars, with five stars indicating the best crash protection for vehicles within the same weight class. This test used driver and passenger belts and airbags.

NHTSA Rollover Rating
no test

Rollover Note
The Rollover Resistance Rating is an estimate of your risk of rolling over if you have a single vehicle crash. It does not predict the likelihood of that crash. The Rollover Resistance Rating utilizes a "fishhook" maneuver which is a series of abrupt turns at varying speeds to see how "top-heavy" a vehicle is. The more "top-heavy" the vehicle, the more likely it is to roll over. The lowest rated vehicles (1-star) are at least four times more likely to roll over than the highest rated vehicles (5-stars).
