It seems odd to consider the word "value" in a car that costs well over $300,000; instead, the word "prestige" is more appropriate. The 2007 Maybach is in the same rarefied air as the most luxurious new cars in the world. Mercedes-Benz resurrected this illustrious brand in 2004, and it continues to ably fill the market needs of those who demand a personalized luxury experience that cannot be duplicated by any ordinary mode of transportation.
The uber-luxury car; heavenly ride; remarkable comfort; incredible power; all the prestige you'll ever need.
The Maybach luxury sedan is available in four different models for 2007, and literally millions of configurations. The 57 is the "starter" Maybach, while the 62 provides more rear legroom by stretching the 57's 5.7-meter length to 6.2 meters.
The standard engine is a powerful twin-turbo V12 that produces 543 horsepower and 604 ft-lbs of torque, and it is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. The base engine is able to propel the 57 to 60 mph from a standstill in less than five seconds. For those who require even more grunt, the 57S and 62S use the same engine to an end of a practically overwhelming 664 horsepower and 738 ft-lbs of torque.
The interior of the Maybach is nothing short of spectacular. Besides an opulent blending of wood, leather, and fine metals, numerous other delights are present. Individual rear seats have controls to adjust the bottom, the back, the heating, the cooling, and even the leg support and pillow height. Between the two rear seats is a console whose wooden doors conceal a variety of pleasures. Here you'll find a separate six-CD changer and a DVD player that displays through the two screens set in the back of the front seats. A small refrigerator is within reach for chilling the champagne that can then be served in the standard silver flutes. These flutes fit snugly in the secure champagne holders found on all Maybachs.
Despite having standard features that are more luxurious than just about anything on the road, there are plenty of extra cost options, too. A partition wall between the front and rear seats is available on the 62 series. A rear bench seat, an electrotransparent glass roof, nearly a dozen different wood finishes, a gaming station, and a humidor are some of the other unique additions.
The 57's road manners are remarkably civilized for such a large car. With a curb weight in excess of 6,000 pounds, the Maybach can't rightly be called nimble, but it does flow down the road in a way that inspires confidence. Four-wheel independent Airmatic suspension and a rigid frame keep the ride smooth and quiet.
For 2007 the Maybach lineup doubles. In addition to the Maybach 57 (think 5.7 meters in length) and the Maybach 62, there is now a Maybach 57S and Maybach 62S. Both S models get a 61-horsepower upgrade to the already impressive 543-horsepower twin-turbo V12 that powers both models. For the additional $34,500 you also get a firmer suspension and both carbon fiber and black lacquer trim.
