Model Highlights

Jaguar's forte has always been their distinctive styling, and the front end of the 2007 S-Type sedan uses an elliptical grille with vertical bars that harkens back half a century to the Mk II. The sculptured headlights and flowing hood blend together to create a nostalgic visual treat, while the rear end features a more contemporary look.

The S-Type model line has three offerings from which to choose. The $49,000 3.0 uses a 235-horsepower V6 engine and is the economy champ of the trio. Many customers select the $56,000 S-Type 4.2 with its rousing 300-horsepower V8 engine. The $64,000 S-Type R, with its 400-horsepower supercharged 4.2L V8 engine, is aimed at the performance enthusiast.

All of these engines are coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission. These powertrains provide rear-wheel-driving pleasure of the highest order. With a light throttle, this car purrs along with quiet elegance. Under heavy acceleration, the Jaguar responds with a powerful growl that is sure to please any enthusiast.

Inside you will find a driving environment that celebrates Jaguar's dedication to luxury, while incorporating state-of-the-art technology. Stained maple veneers on the dash, around the J-gate gearshift, and accenting the doors help to create a lighter feeling than the more traditional dark walnut. As always the leather seating speaks of a comfort available only in the finer drawing rooms.

While the S-Type impress with both technology and elegant styling, it's the driving that will win you over. Its athletic prowess can best be likened to an Olympic gymnast. Unlike a weight lifter that advertises his power with bulging muscles, a gymnast must be lithe and compact with great strength available on demand. The S-Type 3.0's sleek styling masks the swift 0-60 in less than eight seconds with an exterior that speaks quietly of luxury. The 4.2 and the S-Type R offer considerably more spirited acceleration.

The S-Type 3.0 has a standard moonroof, electrochromic mirrors, fog lamps, rain-sensing wipers, rear park control, adjustable pedals, memory features, and automatic climate control. Navigation, xenon headlights, Bluetooth, front park control, and larger 18-inch alloy wheels make up the options list.

The S-type 4.2 receives unique wheels, xenon headlights with automatic leveling, upgraded floor mats, front park control, a six-disc CD changer, navigation with Bluetooth, and a rear power sunshade. The same 18-inch alloys available with the 3.0 are the sole option.

The S-Type R has a revised suspension with computer active technology, a stiffer body structure, larger brakes, and 18-inch wheels, all of which help make the most of the R's powerful engine. Much of the 4.2's equipment is standard in the R as well, in addition to unique leather trim and a 320-watt Alpine audio system. The $3,000 SV8 package adds adaptive cruise control, various exterior chrome bits, and the rest of the 4.2 equipment that isn't standard on the R, such as the sun shade and upgraded floor mats.

Model News

For 2007, the premium package is now standard equipment in the Jaguar S-Type 3.0. This includes electrochromic mirrors, adjustable foot pedals, memory features for the driving position and side mirrors, plus a programmable garage door opener.

Bluetooth technology and a DVD-based GPS are standard in the S-Type 4.2. The S-Type R is now available with an optional luxury package that includes soft-grain leather-trimmed seating with piping, burl walnut veneers, an electric rear sunshade, bright exterior trim, and adaptive cruise control.

Value Writeup

The 2007 Jaguar S-Type is a prestigious motorcar that is well equipped to do battle with other luxury sedans courtesy of its advanced engineering and sumptuous styling. The S-Type offers old-world elegance in a finely crafted British motorcar, as well as lithe performance.

NHTSA Rollover Rating

Rollover Note
The Rollover Resistance Rating is an estimate of your risk of rolling over if you have a single vehicle crash. It does not predict the likelihood of that crash. The Rollover Resistance Rating utilizes a "fishhook" maneuver which is a series of abrupt turns at varying speeds to see how "top-heavy" a vehicle is. The more "top-heavy" the vehicle, the more likely it is to roll over. The lowest rated vehicles (1-star) are at least four times more likely to roll over than the highest rated vehicles (5-stars).
