Lots of high-tech gear; sleek styling inside and out; competitive price
INFINITI keeps it simple by offering a choice of just a base QX50 and the up-level QX50 Journey. Both models come standard as 2-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is available. Power comes from a 3.7L V6 that makes a healthy 325 hp and 267 ft-lb of torque; it is connected to a standard 7-speed automatic.
Safety equipment includes seatbelt pretensioners, the INFINITI Advanced Airbag System, roof-mounted airbags, anti-lock brakes, electronic brake distribution, brake assist, tire pressure monitoring, traction control and vehicle dynamic control. The Journey has optional intelligent brake assist, which works together with the optional forward collision warning system to minimize impact when its front bumper is about to hit another car or stationary object.
The base model comes with automatic climate control, lots of power accessories, leather seating, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob and 8-way driver and 4-way passenger power-adjustable seats. RearView Monitor and the INFINITI Controller 7-inch screen, which displays audio settings, fuel economy, and more are also standard. The Journey trim adds a moonroof, dual-zone climate controls, power-tilt steering column and maple interior accents.
The Journey also benefits from a few options not available on the base model. The standard 6-speaker stereo system can be upgraded to an 11-speaker Bose system and either a 2 GB or a 9.3 GB Music Box hard drive. Streaming audio via Bluetooth is also available on the Journey trim, as is a navigation system with Zagat restaurant guide. The Around-View Monitor with front and rear sonar is another Journey trim exclusive; its four exterior cameras show a full 360-degree view of the exterior on an in-dash screen.
For 2014, the only news for the INFINITI QX50 is its name. Previously the EX37, the model now shares a common "Q" nomenclature with the rest of the INFINITI family.
The INFINITI QX50 has a slew of standard luxury features, even on the base model. Upgrading to the QX50 Journey trim level with all-wheel drive costs less than four thousand dollars over the base price. The 3.7L V6 engine is quite capable for most on-road SUV needs and the list of standard safety measures is extensive. Additionally, the 2-wheel-drive QX50 features an impressive rating of 17 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.
