Value Writeup

The 2007 Hyundai Tiburon sport coupe has attention-getting wedge-shaped styling, along with handling that's competitive with other front-wheel drive coupes such as the Mitsubishi Eclipse. Price also remains one of the Tiburon's strongest selling points, as it comes in at several thousand less than most of its competitors, and has side air bags standard.

Model Highlights

Hyundai's small, front-wheel drive sport coupe gets a more aggressive, contemporary appearance for 2007 and still comes in three trim levels: the affordable Tiburon GS, touring-oriented GT and GT Limited, and performance-oriented SE.

The GS comes with a 138-horsepower 2.0L four-cylinder engine, while the GT and SE come with a 172-horsepower 2.7L V6. GS and GT models are available with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission, while SE models are offered only with a six-speed manual transmission.

All Tiburon models come with electronic stability control and anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD). Front seat-mounted side air bags are also standard on all Tiburons. SE models upgrade to big 12-inch front rotors and brake assist for the ABS.

The performance-oriented SE model gets a "European-tuned" suspension that's significantly stiffer, which with an independent rear suspension and stabilizer bars front and back can provide sharp, precise handling on curvy roads.

Even the base GS model comes equipped quite well, with standard features including keyless entry, air conditioning, and a 220-watt Kenwood CD audio system. The touring-oriented GT model adds leather upholstery and trim, an improved gauge cluster, cruise control, and automatic climate control. The GT Limited adds flamboyant red leather seats, special interior trim, and a 440-watt, MP3-compatible sound system with six-CD changer. GS models get 16-inch wheels and tires while GT, GT Limited, and SE models all get larger and wider 17-inch wheels and rubber.

Model News

For 2007, the Hyundai Tiburon sport coupe gets a facelift, with a restyled front fascia and rear end, plus new headlights, taillights, hood, and front fenders. Inside, gauges are now backlit in blue and there's new gunmetal accent trim.

Equipment has also been reconfigured on the mid-range SE model. The suspension has been tuned to be firmer, stability control is now standard, new larger cross-drilled brake rotors are offered, and a full-size spare is now standard.

Originally, in April 2013, Hyundai recalled 1,059,824 model year 2007-2009 Accent and Tucson, model year 2007-2010 Elantra, model year 2007-2011 Santa Fe, model year 2008-2009 Veracruz, model year 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, and model year 2011 Sonata vehicles. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the crui...

Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of Park without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.

Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. The safety recall began on April 22, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's recall campaign number is 110.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

NHTSA Rollover Rating

Rollover Note
The Rollover Resistance Rating is an estimate of your risk of rolling over if you have a single vehicle crash. It does not predict the likelihood of that crash. The Rollover Resistance Rating utilizes a "fishhook" maneuver which is a series of abrupt turns at varying speeds to see how "top-heavy" a vehicle is. The more "top-heavy" the vehicle, the more likely it is to roll over. The lowest rated vehicles (1-star) are at least four times more likely to roll over than the highest rated vehicles (5-stars).
