The 2015 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid comes in both base and Limited trims. All trims come with the same 2.4L Atkinson cycle 4-clylinder engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and an electric motor powered by a lithium polymer battery.
Despite its curvaceous roofline, the Sonata excels in offering plenty of passenger space in front and in back. Three adults can sit across in the back seat, and with 12.1 cubic feet of trunk space, there's more space for cargo than in most other hybrid sedans in this class.
Even at the base level, the Sonata Hybrid comes with dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, Bluetooth connectivity, automatic LED running lights and keyless ignition. The Limited model adds 17-inch alloy wheels and upgraded heated leather power seats.
The Sonata Hybrid includes all the safety features that are expected today in a mid-size sedan--like electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes and side-curtain airbags.
The Limited trim offers but one factory option, the Option Group includes a panoramic sunroof and an upgraded stereo with Infinity speakers, integrated navigation and a touchscreen display interface.
The Sonata Hybrid returns relatively unchanged for 2014.
The Hyundai Sonata stands out among mid-size sedans for offering one of the most generous sets of standard features. While most of its competition-- which includes the likes of the Ford Fusion, Chevrolet Malibu, Toyota Camry, Nissan Maxima and Honda Accord --not all of them offer hybrid powertrains, nor do they offer the same level of usable interior space, cargo space, and ride comfort. The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid achieves EPA ratings of 38 mpg city, 40 highway.
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Sonata Hybrid vehicles manufactured December 8, 2014, to August 18, 2015, and Hyundai Sonata vehicles manufactured May 28, 2014, to March 18, 2016, equipped with the panoramic sunroof option. Due to a bonding issue with the sunroof wind deflector, the sunroof panel on the affected vehicles may detach while driving.
If the sunroof detaches from the vehicle it could become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will repair the wind deflector anchor plate, free of charge. The recall began December 2016. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 152.
