Cadillac's 2008 SRX is available in two basic flavors: V8 and V6. Both engines offer variable valve timing and can be mated to an optional all-wheel-drive system. Even the base V6, which uses GM's excellent 255-horsepower "high feature" 3.6L engine can be driven quickly, which is more rewarding than you would expect. Cadillac has really spent some time sorting out the suspension tuning of both SRX models, and it shows. Upgrade to the Northstar 4.6L V8, and horsepower increases to 320.
Choose the optional Magnetic Ride Control adaptive suspension, and handling goes from very good to outstanding, as this SUV feels tight and responsive around turns, giving it a cornering feel on par with INFINITI's FX or the BMW X5. Still, the highway ride remains smooth and comfortable, which is how most SUV buyers prefer it. The feel and responsiveness of the steering and brakes impress as well.
Just about every convenience feature you can imagine is available on the SRX, including sport packages with 18-inch or 20-inch wheels and tires, premium seating, a theater package which includes a rear seat DVD player (now a de rigueur offering in SUVs), high intensity discharge headlamps, an "Ultraview" panoramic sunroof, and more.
Overall, the 2007 Cadillac SRX is a very well-rounded package, and should remain a top choice for those wanting a bit more on-road excitement from their SUV.
An SUV that drives like a sedan; upgraded interior now on par with good looking exterior.
The big news for the 2007 Cadillac SRX is its upgraded interior. The instrument panel, door trim, and dash are now covered in hand crafted, French stitched leather instead of plastic. This allowed Cadillac to hide the air bags by punching tiny perforations into the back side of the leather instead of leaving a visible plastic seam.
Along with the new leather bits, the SRX is now bestowed with a deeper colored wood trim, called Sapele, which lends a richer overall look to the inside of the vehicle. Also new are navigation and HVAC systems with simpler controls. A Bose audio system becomes standard on every model, while a 5.1 channel Bose surround sound system is available as an option. Cadillac also now offers up its optional sport package by including 20-inch alloy wheels (instead of 18-inchers) and more aggressive front and rear fascias. V8 models get GM's six-speed automatic.
With a base MSRP of $37,225, the 2007 Cadillac SRX brings a lot to the table. For starters, the GM 3.6L "high feature" V6 is smooth and capable, while never becoming noisy or obtrusive. Also standard is StabiliTrak, which can reduce engine or wheel speed as conditions dictate. Goodyear tires ride on handsome 17-inch machined aluminum wheels, which are bolted to very capable four wheel anti-lock disc brakes. Other standard amenities include power front bucket seats, a tilting leather-wrapped steering wheel with redundant audio and climate controls, power windows and locks, remote keyless entry, a complimentary year of OnStar service, and parking assist. All these standard features on top of an SUV that drives on par with its German and Japanese rivals translate to an outstanding value that should not be ignored.
