Pros

Very quiet interior; extremely comfortable ride; solid construction; low price for a roomy near-luxury sedan.

Model Highlights

The LaCrosse replaced the Buick Regal in 2005 and hasn't changed much since. This midsize four-door sedan can be purchased as either a five- or six-passenger vehicle, and it represent a step forward for Buick. While the front end features a larger version of the traditional Buick elliptical grille, several details are modern enough to show the LaCrosse is clearly a vehicle of the 21st Century. Tolerances between body panels are tighter than any previous Buick, and the four headlights are nicely framed by the sculpted hood.

The LaCrosse is available in three trim levels. Like the CXL, the CX is powered by the venerable 3.8L V6. This elder statesman of the GM engine family makes 200-horsepower and 224 lb-ft of torque. The CXS is the performance model, and it comes equipped with a more modern 3.6L V6. This powerplant has double overhead camshafts and four-valves per cylinder. It pumps out 240 horsepower, and 90% of its 225 lb-ft of torque is available between 1,900 and 6,000 rpms.

Notable standard equipment on all trims includes traction control, four-wheel disc brakes, power seats and windows, remote keyless entry, and air bags all around. The CXL is equipped with leather seats, memory features, automatic climate controls, a driver information system, among other items. Standard equipment in the CXS includes XM satellite radio, fog lamps, four-wheel independent suspension, and dual exhaust.

Remote vehicle start, a six-disc CD changer, a heated driver seat, and a sunroof can be added to all LaCrosses. A Driver Confidence Package is available on the CXL and CXS, and it adds steering wheel-mounted controls, a universal home remote, heated mirrors, rear parking assist, and an electrochromic rearview mirror. StabiliTrak is an available option on the CXS.

The newest Buick excels in its quiet, comfortable ride. Without a doubt, this is the best handling Buick we've ever driven. Buick engineers have gone to considerable effort to cut down on all the sources for road noise, and their hard work shows.

Model News

The Buick LaCrosse is one of the GM's sharpest sedans, available with either a 200-horsepower 3.8L V6 in the CX and CXL, or a 240-horsepower 3.6L V6 in the CXS. For 2007, there is new Harvest Burl wood trim, redesigned instrument graphics, four new colors and new designs of the 17-inch wheels. A tire pressure monitoring system and OnStar is now standard on all trims. A higher axle ratio (3.05 vs 2.86) is new for the two lower trims, as is a Chrome Enhancement Package for the LaCrosse CX.

Value Writeup

The 2007 Buick LaCrosse is a spacious front-wheel drive near-luxury sedan that is built on traditional Buick values. It offers a comfortable ride, exceptionally quiet interior, and controls that are simple and easy to use, and is priced lower with a larger interior than most any of its Japanese and European competitors.

A POTENTIAL MATERIAL OR DESIGN DEFECT COULD RESULT IN THE STEERING KNUCKLE BREAKING IN THE HUB AREA.

Consequence
A BROKEN STEERING KNUCKLE COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND A POSSIBLE CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.

DORMAN WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE STEERING KNUCKLES FREE OF CHARGE AND REIMBURSE THE REPAIR FACILITY OR OWNER FOR LABOR. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT MARCH 20, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DORMAN'S TOLL-FREE HOTLINE AT 1-800-523-2492.

Summary
This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2009 Buick LaCrosse, 2006-2011 Buick Lucerne, 2000-2005 Cadillac DeVille, 2006-2011 Cadillac DTS, 2006-2014 Chevrolet Impala, and 2006-2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the weight on the key ring and road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.

Consequence
If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Additionally, a key knocked out of the run position could cause loss of engine power, power steering, and power braking, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two 13mm key rings and key insert into the vehicle's ignition keys, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick), 1-800-458-8006 (Cadillac), and 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet). GM's number for this recall is 14299.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Crash Test Note
Results based on a 35 MPH frontal crash and 38.5 MPH side crash. Results are reported in a range of one to five stars, with five stars indicating the best crash protection for vehicles within the same weight class. This test used driver and passenger belts and airbags.

NHTSA Rollover Rating

Rollover Note
The Rollover Resistance Rating is an estimate of your risk of rolling over if you have a single vehicle crash. It does not predict the likelihood of that crash. The Rollover Resistance Rating utilizes a "fishhook" maneuver which is a series of abrupt turns at varying speeds to see how "top-heavy" a vehicle is. The more "top-heavy" the vehicle, the more likely it is to roll over. The lowest rated vehicles (1-star) are at least four times more likely to roll over than the highest rated vehicles (5-stars).
