Model News

The Enclave is an all-new model for Buick in 2008, and it replaces both the midsize Rainier and the Rendezvous SUVs. It shares its architecture with other big GM crossover SUVs like the GMC Acadia and Saturn Vue. It is powered by GM's superb 3.6L all-aluminum V6, which puts out 275 horsepower and is mated to a six-speed automatic. The Enclave comes in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and two trim levels are available--the CX, which starts at $32,990, and the CXL, which starts at $35,190.

Value Writeup

The all-new 2008 Buick Enclave joins a fast-growing segment of luxury crossover SUVs populated by vehicles from Acura, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW. In either CX or CXL trim, the Enclave costs less than any of them. The Enclave's interior appointments uphold Buick's luxury heritage, and space abounds, with three rows of luxury seating for adults and easy access to the rear row. As much as 116 cubic feet of cargo capacity are on hand, which is far more than most of its peers. Thanks to Buick's exclusive Quiet Tuning, the Enclave rides quieter than nearly all of its competition as well.

Pros

Large luxury crossover SUV with room for eight or plenty of cargo; smooth ride; ample power from V6; a new benchmark for Buick.

Model Highlights

The all-new 2008 Enclave is a bold departure for Buick, and it scores points on several levels. While the exterior wears the Buick family face, it does so far better than the midsize Rendezvous and Rainier did, and lends visual cohesion to the Buick line. The newest Buick pairs a 3.6L V6 that produces 275 horsepower with a six-speed automatic transmission. As is typical of the Buick nameplate, the Enclave comes loaded with standard features and space, which means plenty of room for people and their things.

Both the CX and CXL include Buick's tri-zone climate control, halogen fog lamps, and xenon headlights, power remote rear liftgate, a full-size spare tire, and much more. The CX comes standard with 18-inch aluminum wheels, while 19-inch aluminum wheels are standard on the CXL.

The CXL adds leather seats with heat for both driver and passenger and eight-way power settings for the driver, along with memory presets. The CXL also offers a Luxury Package, which features power folding outside mirrors, power tilt and telescopic steering wheel, articulating headlights, and a 110-volt outlet.

Available options for both models include Active Intelligent all-wheel drive, rear parking assist, four different premium Bose sound and navigation systems that range in price from $980 to $4,320, and a power sunroof with additional skylight. While seven-passenger seating is standard with second-row captain's chairs and a third-row 60/40 split bench, a second-row 60/40 split bench with flat folding and SmartSlide access to the third row is available for $495.

Safety features on all Enclaves include anti-lock brakes, traction control, stability control, a tire pressure monitor, dual-stage front- and side-impact air bags, as well as side curtain air bags for all three rows of seating, and a full year of OnStar.

A RECALL WAS IMPLEMENTED IN 2008 TO ADD A FUSE TO THE CONTROL CIRCUIT HARNESS TO ADDRESS THE POTENTIAL CONSEQUENCES OF A PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD (PCB) ELECTRICAL SHORT. HOWEVER, THERE HAVE BEEN NEW REPORTS OF THERMAL INCIDENTS ON HWFS MODULES AFTER THIS IMPROVEMENT WAS INSTALLED. THESE INCIDENTS RESULTED FROM A NEW FAILURE MODE ATTRIBUTED TO THE DEVICE'S THERMAL PROTECTION FEATURE. THE SIGNIFICANCE VARIES FROM MINOR DISTORTION TO CONSIDERABLE MELTING OF THE PLASTIC AROUND THE HWFS FLUID CHAMBER.

Consequence
IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE HEATED WASHER MODULE TO IGNITE AND A FIRE MAY OCCUR.

DEALERS WILL PERMANENTLY DISABLE AND REMOVE THE HEATED WASHER FLUID MODULE. AN UPDATED PAGE FOR THE OWNER MANUAL WILL BE PROVIDED AND INSERTED IN THE OWNER MANUAL TO DOCUMENT THAT THE FEATURE HAS BEEN PERMANENTLY DISABLED AND REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR BEFORE JUNE 11, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BUICK AT 1-866-608-8080, CADILLAC AT 1-866-982-2339, CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438, SATURN AT 1-800-972-8876, GMC AT 1-866-996-9463 AND HUMMER AT 1-800-732-5493 OR AT THE OWNER CENTER AT WWW.GMOWNERCENTER.COM.

Summary
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2008-2013 Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia and 2009-2013 Chevrolet Traverse and 2008-2010 Saturn Outlook vehicles. In the affected vehicles, increased resistance in the driver and passenger seat mounted side impact air bag (SIAB) wiring harnesses may result in the SIAB and seat belt pretensioners not deploying in the event of a crash.

Consequence
Failure of the side impact air bags and seat belt pretensioners to deploy in a crash increase the risk of injury to the driver and front seat occupant.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected harness connections with soldered connections, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Buick owners may contact the owner center at 1-800-521-7300, Chevrolet owners at 1-866-694-6546, Saturn at 1-800-553-6000, and GMC owners at 1-866-996-9463. GM's number for this recall is 14030. Note: Vehicles repaired as part of Customer Satisfaction Campaign 10085 and special coverage 10335 have already had the subject condition repaired and therefore are not included in the safety recall.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Summary
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2008-2012 Buick Enclave vehicles manufactured January 3, 2007, to February 29, 2012, 2009-2012 Chevrolet Traverse vehicles manufactured July 6, 2008, to February 29, 2012, 2007-2012 GMC Acadia vehicles manufactured September 15, 2006, to February 29, 2012, and 2007-2010 Saturn Outlook vehicles manufactured August 17, 2006, to March 18, 2010. The affected vehicles, equipped with the power liftgate option, have gas struts that hold the power liftgate up when open. These struts may prematurely wear and the open liftgate may suddenly fall.

Consequence
If the open liftgate unexpectedly falls, it may strike a person, increasing their risk of injury.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will update the software for the power liftgate actuator motor control unit so that the motor will prevent the rapid closing of the lift gate, free of charge. Owners were mailed interim notices on August 3, 2015. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782, and Saturn customer service at 1-800-553-6000. Crash Test Note
Results based on a 35 MPH frontal crash and 38.5 MPH side crash. Results are reported in a range of one to five stars, with five stars indicating the best crash protection for vehicles within the same weight class. This test used driver and passenger belts and airbags.

NHTSA Rollover Rating

Rollover Note
The Rollover Resistance Rating is an estimate of your risk of rolling over if you have a single vehicle crash. It does not predict the likelihood of that crash. The Rollover Resistance Rating utilizes a "fishhook" maneuver which is a series of abrupt turns at varying speeds to see how "top-heavy" a vehicle is. The more "top-heavy" the vehicle, the more likely it is to roll over. The lowest rated vehicles (1-star) are at least four times more likely to roll over than the highest rated vehicles (5-stars).
